  • how to protect front bumper

I just bought a brand new car and I will be driving it 350 miles back to my home from the dealership tomorrow. ( I got a great deal from this dealership as my brother was buying a car at the same time.) How can I protect the front bumper from any possible paint damage from the highway driving on the way back. Someone said I could use vasoline or possilby saran wrap. Do you know of any SAFE way to protect the car excluding a car bra? thank you all very much!

If you're looking for a quick way to protect the front end just for this trip, as crazy as it sounds you can apply blue 3M Painter's Tape as sort of a wrap to protect it. We've seen guys running show cars out to SEMA along the 15 freeway through the California desert doing this, then simply pulling it off once they get to Las Vegas. There was even a thread on an Audi forum a few years back where a couple of guys totally and completely wrapped an Audi A4 (if memory serves) before driving cross country with it. They even wrote notes on the tape along their journey and photo documented the whole trip. From personal experience, I used to use this same tape to cover lower portions of my car at the drag strip, or on a road course, to prevent both damage and having to clean up rubber sticking to the paint - pull off the tape and the rubber bits go with it.

It may look a little silly while you're in transit, but at least it will protect the paint, which is the most important part. And the whole thing will probably cost you less than $20.

Thanks! That sounds like a great idea. I don't know why i didn't think of that as I have been using painters tape to protect my current car when I was restoring the headlights . Thanks again

After the trip, try this stuff for a permanent solution!
