Re: Hot & Dusty weather, what Meg products to buy?

Fortunately the sand storm is over, but unfortunately the Meg Water Magnet MF Drying Towel is out of stock at the store in my area and it will take 2 weeks for the new stock to arrive. I have to wash my car by tomorrow, what alternatives do you suggest?

Meg Chamoi is available but I read many threads avoiding the use of Chamoi because it create swirls.

I just want to start washing and waxing my new car by using the right stuff and don't want to regret.

Lots of folks use the Meguiars Chamois on here, just not a fan myself. You can look into other companies, its not as if Meguiars is the only good towels in the world, but dont know what is around for you.

Buying in stores here is hard, usually have to buy online, cant be easier there.

I know online shopping is much easier, but in my country the online shopping is very poor or it's not existing at all. I will search another stores tomorrow. Hope I can find different brands.

If the sand is just sitting there, it shouldnt be doing much damage. Just try not to brush up against it, drag it around, etc and all should be fine when you wash.

Actually I used a leaf blower and blown all the dust from the car, some little fine dusts are still remaining, but diffenetely I will rinse the entire vehicle off and wash it with two buckets before touching any dry dusts.

I have Chenille Cotton Detailing Wash Pad, is it safe? Similar to this

Can use the blower to help dry as well then, as long as it hasnt sucked up any leaves before. Some work both ways.

Yeah, chenille was popular before MF. Looks pretty good, should feeel soft to you? Just carefull with the cuff.

Yeah, the chenille feels pretty soft. I will give it a cautious try today

Really dont need the Nxt 2.0 and Ultimate Wax and Gold Class.

Some people like to do one then the other, but I just use whatever the best one at the moment is.

And then applicators for the products.

Re: Hot & Dusty weather, what Meg products to buy?

As you said, to maintain the car it's good to apply Ultimate Quick Wax after future washes. Just for curiosity, shall I wash the car everytime I want to apply UQW, can I apply it without washing? Or it's not recommended at all. BTW, if I wash my car today, diffentely by tomorrow fine dusts will be accumulated on the body, eh.

Last night, I dropped one of the foam appliators while it was wet and some small sands stick to it, how can I wash it and clean it and make sure it's free of particles?

The Supreme Shine MF got a bit dirty when I was using it, again how can I wash and make it clean?

                      Thanks for your support.

UQW is for after a wash, it has to be on a clean surface.

I usually toss the foam applicators in a bucket with some dish soap, let them soak a little, then rinse out to get any dirt, product, etc out of them.

The MF towels can be machine washed, but only do MF items together.

The things may not come perfectly 'clean', they might keep a stain on them.

Re: Hot & Dusty weather, what Meg products to buy?

This is what helps me, I purchased a California Duster and I use it both at the start and end of the day. If you have access to one, it might be a good purchase. By using it multiple times a day you keep the dirt from accumulating and make it easier to use a microfiber and a quick detailer.

Although the color of your car will not show the swirls as much as a black car, don't wipe the car with a dry microfiber. I think that generates static electricity and will attract dust. My wife has a crimson black Maxima and she carries a Wash Mitt, Ultimate Quik Wax, Ultimate Quik Detailer, a Waffle Weave towel, an Absorber chamois and some microfibers. She will go to manual car wash and rinse off her car and dry using UQW. If really dirty, she takes a screw lid bucket and some Ultimate Wash and Wax to the car wash and hand washes.

Do a search of the forum and you will find discussions regarding the care of microfibers.

Yeah, a duster could be worth trying.

Dust Removal (See also Pollen Grains)

Road dust or just the accumulation of dust from storage needs to be removed safely to avoid imparting scratches to the paint surface. One of the first rules of paint care (especially noticeable with dark colours); the less you touch the paint surface; the less you’ll scratch it. If you don’t have time for a two-bucket wash, then use a 1:20 Optimum (OPT) No Rinse Wash™ & Shine New Formula (ONR) / distilled water solution in a fine mist spray bottle.

The surfactants it contains encapsulate and trap dry surface dust, pollen or light dirt particles making them virtually non-abrasive and it can be used without causing scratches. Apply with a long nap micro fibre towel using very little surface pressure, dusting with long strokes in one direction only
Dust build-up-with low humidity conditions and friction on the paint surface will cause static electricity (this is exacerbated by the use of polyester (nylon) Micro fibre) resulting in dust attraction to the paint surface. .Reduced dust attraction Finish Kare #425 - Ultra Slick Polywipe contains polymer for lubricity, anti-corrosive agents, UV inhibitors and patented anti-static agents that gently remove fingerprints, smudges, and other light contaminates and reduced dust attraction.

                              Heavy Dust

To remove heavy dust use Optimum (OPT) No Rinse Wash™ & Shine New Formula (ONR) a quick ‘wash’; formulated with surfactants to keep dirt in suspension, avoiding surface contact, it also provides surface lubrication, thereby avoiding surface marring. Alternatively use Optimum Instant Detailer - this formulation penetrates and encapsulates light dust (including pollen) dirt, and grime, allowing for their removal without scratching or dulling the surface. As soon as is practical, thoroughly rinse the vehicle with a hose and clean water to ensure all the pollen is removed.

                              Light Surface Dust

To remove light, dry surface dust without causing scratches apply very little surface pressure, use a California Duster, using long strokes in one direction only, use a product that contains a surfactant; this will lessen surface scratching as they ‘lift’ dust etc into the media used avoiding surface friction (use a solution of Optimum™ no-rinse (ONR) diluted 1:20 / distilled water in a fine mist spray bottle) or Optimum ™ Instant Detailer.

Do not use these methodologies on a hot paint surface (soon after driving) as this will cause streaking?

Use a long nap micro fibre towel or a California Duster to ensure the dust lifted from the paint surface will remain in the nap and not on the towels surface thereby causing surface marring. Shake the towel or duster occasionally to ensure any particles picked up will drop out rather than come to the surface while you’re using it.

It important to use this methodology only for the removal of dry surface dust, don’t use if surface has condensation or dew, or if the vehicle has oily road film, road tar, damp pollen or dust, etc in these instances the vehicle surface should be subjected to a conventional or Optimum (OPT) No Rinse Wash™ & Shine New Formula (ONR) car washing process

Use a long nap micro fibre towel or a California Duster to ensure the dust lifted from the paint surface will remain in the nap and not on the towel surface thereby causing surface marring. Thank you guys for your inputs, they are really helpful tips.

Luckily California Duster is available in my area and I will pick up one.

How is California Water Blade, is it safe on the paint? Does it scratches the paint?
