  • Meguiar's confidence and competing products

With my flyfishing habit, I use one company's rods for the majority of fishing. I have other rods in my arsenal because my main line just doesn't have a rod that fits "my style" of fishing. I've mentioned this to my main line customer service and they told me not to worry about it, their personal collections always include a few rods from competing companies.

Meguiar's seems to be the same way on here. Where some companies will delete posts contaning references to products other than their own, it seems Meg's is content to let us try, use, and comment on other products in addition to their own because the others just fit "our style" of detailing better. Meg's is and will always be my main line with their variety of products. I just get the itch to try new things sometimes to incorporate into my Meg's routine.

Thanks Meg's for being confident in your products. You've got a lifelong customer in me.

Confidence, and also respect and courtesy vs. other brands.. It could also be the reason why they're still around since being founded and started in 1901.. 110 years old now!

Their products are good, maybe not the best, but then you can't argue with the number of satisfied customers (and again, the fact that they've been here for more than a century) and the variety of products applications they have.

Personally, I think the majority of their products ARE the best, that's why they don't mind discussion and trial of other products. You just don't stay on the top of an industry for a century if you're not producing some top products. But this is all my opinion obviously.

Yes, yes, and yes to your opinion! i may have sounded just a bit like i'm just "ok" with meguiars, but yes.. I actually think meguiars is the best, best of both worlds. They give great shine, yet reasonably priced. Their waxes give great shine, yet very easy to use. They give me good insights on what's REALLY needed to make a wax coat last a long time. I do have this thing where i think i have yet to try different car wax brands, or i that i have to try A LOT of them to really establish if Meguiars is the best.. But i've found myself going back to megs..

I'm also drawn by the really expensive concours waxes out there. But then, they are too expensive for average joes like me. But i've gotten really good results with UC, and NXT2.0.. 2 OTC products.. When i got it out of the garage and saw the results, I said to myself "Meguiars did this?!"

Yes, no company lasts 110years for selling so-so products..

My next target is to try out Ultimate wax, but it will take a while for it to come here.. Not a real problem for me, i'll be OK if i try out Gold clas carnauba plus

Romad81, thank you for that, we very much appreciate it!

We pride ourselves on the simple concept of having the products inside the bottle actually doing what the label says they will. We are also huge on educating our customers on not only the correct way to use our products, but car care products in general - which is why this forum exists in the first place.

We also know that there are tons of choices out there, and plenty of excellent products from a wide variety of companies - and that some of you are going to end up preferring certain competing products over our own. We get that, we really do. And while MOL is, obviously, a Meguiar's product specific community, we're always fine with discussions surrounding other products as well (provided there's no bashing, of course!).

Re: Meguiar's confidence and competing products

One of my personal favorites that you don't do, is support certain detailing myths, even where they might help your business.

For example... you guys could easily say, 4 layers of wax is better than 3, 5 better than 4, 6 better than 5, until you get to 20, then you can stop.

Surely, you could sell more product with that approach, but you don't. You suggest two layers, TO ENSURE UNIFORM COVERAGE. That is the type of advice that really builds consumer confidence.
