Is there any substantial difference between Deep Crystal Polish and the new Ultimate Polish

My understanding is that the ultimate polish has abrasives and oils. Deep crystal is a pure polish with just oils.

Is it fair to say that "ultimate polish" is the cosumer equivalent to M205, much the way Ultimate Compound is the similar to M105?

OK, bare with me, so if I wash, clay, SwirlX/ScratchX/or Ultimate Compound, I would just use Deep Crystal Polish. If finish has minor swirls, I can use Ultimate Polish and skip S/S/UC step?

Looking at doing the wife's 2008 Solstice GXP(red) and only minor swirls/scratches on hood.

I already have all the above except Ultimate Polish on hand. I am one of those weirdos that sees Meguiars has a new product so I feel I HAVE TO HAVE IT.......

Not sure if the Ultimate Polish would have the defect removal ability by hand.

But you could always SwirlX or UC the hood, then U.Polish everything.

They are quite a bit different. Deep Crystal Polish is sort of the consumer equivalent of M07 Show Car Glaze in that both are completely non abrasive pure polishes. Ultimate Polish is derived from M205 Ultra Finishing Polish so it utilizes SMAT abrasives that can do wonders for adding clarity and pop to the finish. It still has a lot of polishing oils in it (more so that M205), but it's those SMAT abrasives that really set it apart and take things up a notch.

If you were using the products listen above and wanted to Wash, Prep, Polish, Protect and Maintain, we would recommend UC for heavy defects followed by DCP for added gloss. Ultimate Polish has some light abrasives which will remove very light defects. UP would be used in place of DCP. It could be compared to M205, however it doesn't come close to the same abrasive power as M205.

In my experience, granted limited experience, Ult.Compound does as you say take out most, if not all, of the defects; however it does leave micro-marring or a fine haze. Ult.Polish has the ability to reduce or eliminate that haze. However, you must also factor in those other variables in the equation of pad texture, speed and pressure all of which determine the final state of the clear coat and, as you indicate, the existance of light hazing or....not.

Do you ever eliminate hazing, micro-marring, or is it just reduced to a level below what can be seen with the naked eye and polish just refines it further and a higher quality (DCP>>>UP or $$>>>$$$) refines it better?

I have been using the DCP after UC because I was always under the impression that UP would cause slight hazing because of the abrasives and oils in it, as opposed to DCP being a pure polish so that wouldn't be a factor.

I'm going to do a bit more research, but I think I might change my routine from: UC/DCP/DCW to UC/UP/UW, since it seems that a lot of people are leaning towards the 'Ultimate' line of products.

It would be UC that could leave marring.

However, you would not need UC to be your regular cleaner. SwirlX or Ultimate Polish should be the regular cleaner.

if you need UC to remove swirls every time, something is wrong somewhere else.

Haha yeah, I've only just started detailing since about 2 weeks ago, so my "weekend routine" has been to use UC, since I can only get a panel or two done each weekend, by hand, lol.

That is a good plan, UC on a panel a time to get each panel fixed.
