  • Need your help please!

I just purchased a 2001 E350 van. It's in great mechanical shape however the outside needs serious help.

The previous owner was a wood flooring contractor. His brother accidentley splashed polyurethane stain all over the side of the van and didn't tell anybody about it. As such, its been on there for 6 to 8 months. Additionally there is still adhesive on the the van from the lettering the original owner had on it.

Do you guys think its possible to buff this out and if so what products would you recommend? I used a 3 part Maguires system on my 1989 F250, before I sold it, and it turned out great.

My other option is to get it repainted at Maaco or Earl Schibe. Over the phone they were guessing between $600 and $900 dollars to repaint it.

I'd post pictures but evidently I'm not allowed.

    Thanks for your help.

The adhesive is the easier part, it can be removed by degreasers, tar removers or petroleum distillates like kerosene. It may take time, and you may need (as a final paint finish restotation the paint cleaner/SwirlX/UC and wax. The area where the lettering/adhesive was may have a different color to the rest of the vehicle too, since the sticker effectively shielded the paint beneath.

As for the polyurethane stain, it may have eaten through the paint and effectively fused with it, and not merely on top of the finish.. so removing the stain may require stronger compounds/pro paint correction shops or worse, a repaint.
