  • Clay scratched my car.

So this all started with trying to paint my intercooler pipe in my garage. I used a rattlecan and did not think about overspray at all. Well needless to say my car felt like it had a rough film all over it. Before everyone starts in I now know how stupid it was to spray in my garage with the car in there!

After freaking out for a bit I pulled out the clay and got to work. First of all let me say megs clay worked amazingly at removing the overspray.

Well I pulled the car out into the sun and Saw that there are now scratches all over it. Needless to say I am now freaking out again. I couldn't figure out how this happened...... Until I remembered my daughter was "helping" me detail my car the last time I did it. I then asked her if she happened to drop the clay bar. Guess what.... she did! She said "ya I dropped it but I picked it up and put it back in the case"!

So it looks like my weekend is going to be spent with my da and some 105 and 205. I really hope I can fix this, I don't know what else to do. Any other recommendations?

She may well be on her way to being a contributing member of MOL, please continue to encourage her help.

Besides this kind of quality time is hard to come by.

darn so dropping it really can mess things up even if u cant see the dirt on the clay?
darn good luck on removing them man...maybe u should try something not as strong first, like swirlx,UC

Any fine granule that the clay picks up especially from the ground is enough to cause damage. As mentioned before start off with the least aggressive do a test spot and go from there.

Good advice Mabey I'll start with 205 and a white pad. And yes clay will pick up anything it touches, even if you can't see it it will damage paint.

Wifpd4 my daughter does help me quite a bit. She gets bored easily though, I guess that's what you get from a 10 year old! She will definitely know how to care for her car when the time comes.

I also recommend trying the least aggressive approach to correcting the "dropped clay" scratches.

A couple of months back, a friend did the exact same thing with a dropped clay bar. He only scratched up the trunk lid on his Audi before calling me for help. The scratches were really light and we removed them with 2 passes of SwirlX on Megs Yellow polishing pad with a PC.

If you drop the clay on the ground do not try to clean it, discard it or it may cause micro scratches in your paint film surface.

Like some people probably already told you to try Scratch x. Theis stuff works great. Ofcourse it depends on how deep the scratch is. You can use Scratch X by hand or DA.
