Advice for cleaning and polishing a 1992 white honda prelude
A pure amateur by the way, I bought a used 92 white honda prelude. The paint is very dull and rough, so much that I can't even see swirl marks! Want to do everything by hand if it is possible (I have always polished and waxed by hand it's very therapeutic to me). First is a wash, clay, and ultimate compound followed by a polishing and a waxing. Is this the right way to go our am I way off on my approach? Please help I will take any and all advice before I start. This is my first time cleaning and correcting a paint job in this condition.

You are going to need a D/A for defect removal like you mentioned. You can go over it with UC by hand but you will not get the results you are looking for. The D/A, UC, and a polishing pad will give you more of the results you are looking for. I too find it therapeutic to wax by hand but thats only after the defect removal is done.Practice doesn't make perfect, the dedication to achieve perfection makes perfect. "Smack"

So go with the dual action and ultimate compound and keep all the other steps the same.Comment

Yes. A D/A will reduce your input as well as increase output. But if you are going to get into the D/A route, get a few yellow pads along with a few black ones. You might find that UC might haze the finish a bit or if you want additional gloss the Ultimate Polish will come into play (on a black pad) to give that extra pop to the paint or eliminate the hazing. A D/A will greatly reduce the effort, but it is not as if working by hand is impossible, esp is that was your goal, or budget, etc.
