  • Newbie needs help quick

I have a 93 Viper that has a couple of swirl marks and some scratches. Nothing big but would like it to look like new.

My plan is to wash it with Meguiars car wash, use Meguiars Quick Clay, apply Scratch X, and then NXT car wax. All of this I have learned from this site (thank you) so I think I am headed in the right direction. If I am not I just bought the wrong stuff.

    My questions are

    1. Every time I wax my car with NXT wax it seems to attract a lot of dust. Is this because I apply to much of the product?

    2. I have heard the best way to strip wax is to use Dawn Dish washing detergent. Since I have some specs of dirt most likely underneath the wax should I strip the wax off? Or will the Clay bar be able to remove these even though they are waxed over? I have 2 coats of wax on it since I last striped the wax off.

I need to get this done today so quick help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED. I also want to say thank you for such a great site that has helped me so much already!

Don't use dish washing soap. It's far too strong for automotive finishes and will not only strip the wax off, but will remove important oils from the paint and dry it out. And actually NXT is so strong there has been debate on whether or not dish washing detergents will even strip it off.

That said just wash the car with the Meguiar's Car wash you have, then clay bar, scratchX then your NXT. When applying the NXT you should only apply the thinnest layer you can. Anything else will be waste. As long as it's covering the whole surface your working on it's fine. Globbing it on thick is just a waste of product. And you will be able to wipe it off sooner (though give it it's 15 minutes to setup before wiping it off).

As far as the dust do you mean right after you've applyed it and havne't yet wiped it off? NXT has anti static characteristics and should repel dust if anything. What type of environment are you working in? Idealy it's in a clean garage, but that doesn't always happen. And are you confusing it with the little bit of wax dust that remains on the surface after wiping the wax off?
    Later,
    Ricky

It just seems to get dusty faster maybe it is wax dust. It’s stored in a relatively clean garage.
