  • New car new leather seats?

Well a relative is pick a new car and asked me to take of care it for them. The car has a leather seats, which is where my questions lies. Do I clean the seats then apply conditioner or just apply conditioner since the vehicle basically rolled off the line. Or maybe a cleaner conditioner combo such as GC leather cleaner and conditioner G72 or Medallion leather care M96?

Normally for leather I would use a seperate cleaner and conditioner, but these are for leather seats which have been used. The paint and other interior stuff should not be problem. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Eric

    Hey Eric,

Even with new vehicles, I take the clean and then condition method.

You could use either the GC Cleaner and the GC Conditioner. My personal favorite is Meguiar's Leather Cleaner & Conditioner from the Detailers series. It cleans really well (it even took a stain out of shirt!) and it leaves the leather really soft, and not greasy!!

I'll have to second that, I really really like the detailer leather cleaner and conditioner. I used some recently in a friends Tahoe and he commented that the seats have never been that nice and soft before. For brand new seats I would think the mild cleaning action in it would be adequate. On seats that need cleaned I like to first vaccum the seats, then clean with some dilluted APC, then go back with the leather cleaner and conditioner. Works really really well.
      Later,

Thanks for the info guys. Would the GC combo cleaner/conditioner works as well as the detailer line product as I do want to spend about $30, right now. I will eventually end up trying the detailer line stuff.

Well... the gallon of the detailer line leather stuff lists for $29. Of course if you don't think you'll be using a gallon any time soon click on the link in my sig, he sells it in the secondary 12 oz bottle as well.

The GC cleaner and conditioner works great too. I have used it on the leather in an '04 LS with very good results, and it will fit nicely in your budget.

I would buy the smaller bottle unless you have a few cars.

I used Meguiar's Leather Cleaner & Conditioner early last summer on my 2004 CLK and it still looks great now. I will re-apply only in April-May.

Thank you everyone. I used Medallion Leather cleaner and conditioner. One of the few Meguiars products withoout a good scent, while that does not matter much as it was discontinued. The Medallion worked well and my be a product I use more of on leather seats/interiors in new or good condition. Also, I am glad I asked if I needed to clean or not before conditioning as the seats were a little dirty (not visbably, though). I think I will purchase some D180 from the detailers line.
