I share the same sentiment with my South East Asian neighbor. The 9.99 Dollar Ultimate Compound costs at around $22 here.

Re: How to restore my black color car?

Just to chime in here - I get pulled away from the forum a fair amount to get involved in other projects, the DA Microfiber Correction System taking a lot of my time in the last week or so. If I'm pulled out of town for an event like Barrett-Jackson that can really impact my time on the forum and make catching up a bit of a task! I check in on almost (almost) every thread, however, and when I see a thread like this one with great dialog going back and forth between a new user and seasoned MOL member like Mat (Murr1525) I know that things are moving along smoothly and under control.

So to Mat and all the other regulars who so willingly offer up their very accurate and helpful advice, thank you.

Hi Mat, after see the swirls and light scratches I mentioned in the pictures above. What do you think on using M84? Is M84 too strong to remove this kind of swirls? Thanks.

Re: How to restore my black color car?

You really wont know if the product is strong enough or not will you try it.

The thing with the #84 is that it is a rotary product, not a hand product. Ultimate Compound and #105 are hand products. That means the #84 may remove the swirls, but may also leave some of its own.

But if #84 is all you can get, then have to try it. And if the #84 does leave marks, hopefully the #80 can remove it.

But that is what the concern is, you might be stuck not using the correct product, so better start small, and see how it goes.

Also, what will you be applying the products with?

I use meguiar's applicator pad, FYI I am using megiar's product only on detailing my car. will start to work on it tomorrow. And it will take two days to finish approximately (cause I use hand not DA), it will be tiring days .

Some people use terry cloth, and that would likely be worse.

Hi Mat, Andy and guys. This picture taken after I aply M84 then M80 Then Wax but it is not yet perfect. There is still a little swirls on it but it decreased so many I guess.

                      Picture taken before applying anything

                      Picture Taken after using M84 & M80 & Wax
see the left side of the photo (haven't used anything), compared to the right side of the photo (have applied M84 & M80 & Wax) not perfect but improved.

What do you think about the result? I'm still experimenting on this M84 and M80. and will give you more photos after my next result.
One more thing, can I use M84 three or four times again? Will the paint become blurry? Thanks in advance guys.

Re: How to restore my black color car?

What you really want to do is work with the #84 and #80. Dont bother waxing until you are happy with the result from the cleaners. The wax could hide things that are still there.

You may like to do a wipe down with 50:50 IPA:Water to remove any wax, oils, to get a good look at the surface again.

Actually I don't satisfied with the result but what can I say I only use my hands, that's all I've got. But it really improves in reducing the swirls. There's only a little swirls left behind.
By the way what is IPA? I don't really understand it, why I should remove the wax (it is just to show me the actual result after polishing it)?
                          Thanks Mat.

Hi Mat, like I said before I dont really satisfied with the result, I have some question about this.
                            1. Is it okay if I apply M84 and M80 using hand again for the second time?
                            2. After I apply M84 and M80 for the second time and the result still not satisfying, can I use M84 and M80 for the third times?
                            3. What effect will appear if I'm applying no.1 queation and no. 2 question?
Hope I get clear answers. Thank you so much.

Still have some question left behind. Maybe there's anyone who can tell me how long we have to polish using M84 in one section 40cm x 40m using circular motion by hand? Thanks guys, really need help here...

Re: How to restore my black color car?

It looks as though you've made some good progress here, but you really should stay away from the M84 by hand. It is a very aggressive product that is really designed for rotary application only. It needs that power to break down the abrasives - if you don't properly break these down they will end up scouring in the paint.

Looking at the improvement you've made so far, and if these are the only products you can get, we would recommend using only the M80 from here on, and apply it 3 or 4 times if need be. It's not terribly aggressive so by hand it may take several applications. Ideally, though, if you can find some Ultimate Compound from our consumer line you'll get the job much, much faster by hand.
