  • New to detailing - need some help with my car

    Hello!

I am new to car detailing although I have already done some detailing on my car but never was satisfied with the end result. Until I found out about Meguiar's products I thought there's nothing that can change back the beautiful swirl free finish of my black car, now when I see this forum I see that everything is possible thanks to Meguiar's.

So let's start with my car first:

It's a VW Polo, manufactured on february 2003 common European model, which isn't on sale at the U.S. so you probably won't know this car.

It has a pure black finish with clear coating but after 2 years the finish doesn't look good at all to my eyes although everyone is wondering how beautiful my black car looks even if it's only washed Yeah that's the secret of hand-wash

Here are some pics I made today to show you the worst parts of the coat around the doors the rest of the finish doesn't look as bad but it has more or less swirls all around

So could you please help me how to start what to do first which Meguiar's product to use and how to keep my car in top condition?

I have already some idea how to take some steps I will write it just afterwards.

So here's my idea of which steps to take to get back the shine of my black car and how to protect it:

I would start with the carwash and use the

    NXT Generation® Car Wash

    Than I would use the

    Quik Clay Detailing System

'cause my finish doesn't feel smooth so I thought to clean it as the second step.

3rd step could be maybe the use of

    ScratchX

although I don't know if it is necessary or if it is the best way how to remove swirls. I really don't have problems with scratches only swirls are my main problem as you can see on the pictures above

What I would like to ask as the next step, if I should use the

    Deep Crystal System Polish

to make my car color just perfect or should I use something else? I am expect perfect black shiny car so I don't know if Deep Crystal System Polish is the way to go or not

As probably the last step I would protect the car and the detailing work with the

    NXT Generation® Tech Wax

I don't know if there are some better products from the professional line or not I would welcome any ideas and help.

    Thanks

some more pictures of my car from august 2003, this was my first detailing on my car using TURTLE WAX products, although it looks fine on the pictures I wasn' really satisfied with the end result. On the other way I was able only to use the TURTLE WAX ****** WAX.

          Hey,

I agree with the others. I would also make sure to use only top quality microfiber towels for product removal. Black can be a tricky color to deal with. But if you take your time, you will be amazed at just how good black can look!!!

            Thanks for replies

There's something more I wanted to ask:

I found out that there's one more product for removing of swirls called

            Swirl Remover 2.0

that can also be used by hand like ScratchX. Which one is better to use for the whole car ScratchX or Swirl Remover? As described at the beginning the finish of my card doesn't have any major deep scratches only swirls all around.

            Should I use the

            Supreme Shine Microfiber

for any of the product removal? And what should I use for applying of ScratchX or Swirl Remover? Should I use the

            Hi-Tech Applicator Pad

for applying of any of the products I will use?

              Hey,

Meguiar's #9 Swirl Remover is quite mild. You can use it by hand, but it tends to work better by machine.

I would use the ScratchX with the foam applicator and use the Supreme Shine Microfiber for product removal.

              I hope this helps!

Thanks a lot for the feedback I will try it with ScratchX just as you recommended.

Could you please also explain me the difference between these 3 polishes please:

New Car Glaze vs. Show Car Glaze vs. Speed Glaze

and where can be positioned the

                Deep Crystal System Polish

                compared to the three products?

Which of these polishes is better to use for my car's finish?

                  Hey,

That question comes up quite often. So to briefly summarize:

                  Meguiar's:

#5 New Car Glaze is a pure polish which is designed for higher humidity areas.

#7 Show Car Glaze is a pure polish, has the highest amount of TS Oils, and was originally designed for Single Stage paint though it works very well with BC/CC (Clear Coat).

#80 Speed Glaze is a unique product: it cleans, contains a healthy dose of TS Oils and also contains a paintable polymer.

The DC2 would be similar to #7 Show Car Glaze.

So in your case, after using the ScratchX, I would follow up with the #80 Speed Glaze and top it with 2 coats of NXT Tech Wax.

                  I hope this helps!

Tim, thanks a lot for your valuable information it will really help me to make a step forward. Now I have a clear idea of what to use and how to apply it.

However I have one more question please:

                    What is the difference between

Supreme Shine Microfiber vs. Ultra Plush Super Terry

I see that both should be just perfect for detailing but which one is better for which purpose?

                      Hey,

One of the towels is microfiber and the other is a cotton terry towel. I generally prefer microfiber. I have a new Supreme Shine Microfiber towel but I have not had a chance to try it yet.

Otherwise, either of these two towels will work great as they are both quality products!
