I believe Mr. Stoops said the reason they have both a trigger spray and a lotion version is that market research indicated that people tend to prefer a spray type product for interior trim and a gel or lotion type product for exterior trim.

I couldn't agree with the above comment more. The cream is still good for both, it's a personal preference thing (always nice to have choices). I have personally used the cream for interior and exterior.
One car I cleaned was a 2005 Mazda 6, which has a mix of light and dark surfaces, and all came out really nicely. I've used M40 prior to UP (among most of the other Meguiars interior sprays) & it'd really been my favourite product to use on trim for years, but UP is coming close to changing my opinion. Very satisfying product to use!

I use a tire swipe and the gel to apply UP to the outside plastic pieces, and the spray for the interior with a microfiber cloth. Worked well for me.Comment
