  • Topping Color X with Cleaner Wax = redundant?

    Hi all!
Today I decided to wash and wax my car. I removed some swirls with Color X, then I was about to use the Cleaner Wax when I suddenly remembered something - Color X is also wax, right?
So like the title, I was wondering whether doing this would be redundant.
I also have UQW, is that better as a second layer?

    Thanks in advance,

    Pierre

Yes that would be redundant. Applying Cleaner/Wax over Colorx (which is a cleaner/wax) will result in the removal of Colorx. There are a few options:

    1) Leave it with only Colorx
2)Top Colorx with a finishing wax like NXT 2.0
    3)Top Colorx with UQW

The choices are really up to you. Of course, if you wanted to top Colorx with NXT 2.0 and follow that with UQW that wwould be fine also.

Thanks, Shawn! Yeah, I was hoping to top it up with NXT 2.0 too, but I think I'll have to wait until the end of the month (payday) to get it - the missus isn't exactly thrilled when I bought my last batch of Meg's products.. I guess I'll just have to prove to her that it's all worth the effort (and purchase!)

        Guys,

Need a quick help, would like to apply COLORX on my car, but NXT 2.0 has been applied couple of days ago. What should be the process

        > don't apply COLORX, wait for some more days, as COLORX might remove the NXT

        Or

        > Apply a layer of COLORX followed by NXT 2.0

Why do you want to apply Colorx? What are you trying to do that you didn't accomplish before?

If you really wanted to use Colorx then just go ahead and apply it and it will remove the NXT 2.0 and then you could top it again with NXT 2.0.

Re: Topping Color X with Cleaner Wax = redundant?

Shineseeker and Ivtec Guy: both ColorX and Cleaner Wax are "cleaner waxes"--i.e., they contain abrasives and chemical cleaners that will remove from the paint surface stains, contaminants, oxidation, and previously applied wax. They also leave behind a layer of wax protection.

If you have already applied ColorX, there is no need to apply Cleaner Wax. The Cleaner Wax will remove the ColorX. If you want to apply a second layer of protection on top of the ColorX, then use a wax that does not contain cleaners, e.g., NXT or Gold Class Carnauba.

If you have already applied NXT, then you only want to apply ColorX if you want to remove the NXT and in a sense start all over. If you only want an additional layer of protection on top of the NXT, then simply apply a second layer of NXT.

            Does that make sense?

Both ColorX and Cleaner Wax can be used as stand-alone protectants. You do not have to top them with any other wax.

But many here on MOL like to periodically use ColorX or Cleaner Wax to clean up their paint. They then top it with their preferred protectant. See: Your Daily Driver: A Simple Wash & Wax Regimen.
Swirls hide in the black molecular depths, only waiting for the right time to emerge and destroy your sanity.
