  • Washing: High-Pressure Hose vs Microfibre Mit

    Hi all,

Just wondering which would be better.
Washing the car by hand or using a high pressure hose with the gold class liquid in the bottle which runs through the hose?

    Thanks
    James

    First, welcome to MOL!
Using water pressure is OK as a preliminary step to remove heavy dirt, snow, salt etc., and then follow with either a traditional wash or even a one-step product like Optimum No-Rinse. It's a good process for those of us in cold climates who don't have access to a heated garage in winter. Using sufficient pressure to remove all the dirt film will likely destroy any wax or sealant on the paint or even damage the paint itself.

As BillyJack said, you can use high pressure to knock the big dirt off before going to two-bucket method with Griit Guards. However, I would not use only high pressure and soap. This still may leave some film of dirt on the car that you would be rubbing against the finish when drying.

Really? I did not know that high pressure water will remove wax on a car.

I have access to a water hose which looks and feel like a fire hose, with lots of pressure and water. I rinse my car about once a month with this hose and I do not see any deterioration of the wax. I usually rinse the whole car, ie: car surface, underbody as well as the wheel wells. I think this is a good way to remove salt and road grimes....

Just depends on the pressure....psi. Enough psi will take off paint. The pressure at the drive up wash bays is not enough for that.
