  • Scratch-X

I have used Scratch-X before and didn't have much success. After reading some posts here as well as the tutorial, I have a better understanding of the product.

My question is: I have a car with a glossy finish as a result of frequent maintenance using Meguiars products. If you look at the right angle, however, you can see fine swirl marks found on many finishes. It is not noticable at most angles, but I'd love to get rid of them entirely.

Is Scratch-X meant for these types of scratches?

In a completely unrelated question, I enjoy claying my car 4-6 times a year. I assumed that since the claying only removed contaminants, this is fine. Am I correct in this assumption?

Thanks for the help. I'm looking forward to Spring and ordering my annual supply from Meguiars. Unfortunately, the only place I can find most of the products is online. Better than nothing, however!

    Hi Brian,

Will you be detailing the finish by hand or machine?

If you are detailing the finish by hand, then I would use the ScratchX, followed by #9 Swirl Remover and topped with 2 coats of NXT Tech Wax.

If you are detailing by machine (G-100 or PC) then I would use Meguiar's #80 Speed Glaze. If the #80 is not strong enough to remove the swirls, then moved up tp #83 Dual Action Cleaner Polish, and repeat with the #80. After the polishing step, follow with two coats of NXT.

As for the claying, I usually use it 2-3 times per year. But again, this does depend on the environment in your area.

    Cheers!

        Hey Brian,

        You are welcome!

Since you are going to detail the finish by hand, just make sure to REALLY work in the ScratchX. You must work it long enough for the Diminishing Abrasives to break down properly.

        Keep us posted!!
