  • Paint correction around decals/graphics

    Hello All,
    Sorry to post another thread so soon.

    I was wondering how to properly attack paint correction around vinyl decals or graphics? How would you remove pesky swirls between letters and inside letters without damaging them like in this Ford Thunderbolt?

    Thanks,
    RJ

    It's very tricky and time consuming. You don't want to damage any of those decals/ graphics so of course machine buffing is out of the picture.

    Probably small hand applicator with cleaner polish or cleaner wax would be a good approach (nothing too aggressive).

    I found this thread where Mike Phillips speaks about the proper way to do it:

    Hi all I'm somewhat new here I more read than post, but I have a question finally I'm a volunteer fireman in NJ and I've taken on the task of making o

        The Thunderbolt isn't mine, although I wish it were as they are extremely rare. I just used it for reference as I have a similar problem.

        That thread is current Greg, I'll have to follow it. Unfortunately mine are not cleared over so I'll have to be careful. 105 would probably be too aggressive but that's what is needed for correction. This also leaves us with another question;

        Are their swirls under the decals ? lol

          All I can say is "WOW" working by hand around decals REALLY slows down the process. And to think the whole car needs to be done at least twice.

          I will say however that the decals seem to benefit from some residual compound as it appears to lightly clean the surface of the decals without marring them.

          Anyone with experience or professional advice for working with compounds around decals ?
