  • Hints and Tips On Detailing A Honda?

    Hi Guys,

After reading many threads on here I have heard Honda paint is very delicate. Does this apply to all Honda's?

I will be detailing a Hond Civic later on this year. Would DC01 be to mild?.

Or should I use Swirl X on a lower speed on my d/a?

    Guys, please help?

    Rappy.

Don't want to make blanket statements, but good to have it in mind that the paint may be soft. Esp black.

I dont think DC01 would do what you want. Having ColorX, SwirlX, and Ultimate Compound (or equivalents) would cover all the bases.

You may only need something mild. Or you may find it best to use something strong, leave marring, then clean the marring up with the milder product. Or you could use something strong hand have it finish out fine. Could be any situation.

I don't think you want to use SwirlX at a lower speed. After all, you still want to correct the paint. Do a test spot with SwirlX and polishing pad on speed 5 and then see where you are at. Wipe down the test spot with an IPA/water solution so you can assess the paint accurately. SwirlX can temporarily hide defects. If SwirlX doesn't effect the necessary level of paint correction, then move up to Ultimate Compound, expecting that you will need to use SwirlX or ColorX afterwards to remove possible marring left behind by the compound. After you have dialed in your process with the test spot, then you can polish the rest of the car. I know how finicky Honda paint can be, but I do not think you need worry about SwirlX.

I would go with Swirlx on speed 4 to begin with. I can achieve about 90% correction on my Civic with Swirlx on speed 4. Of course, my swirls are very light so speed 5 or a stronger product may be needed.

Remember to do a test spot!

          Rappy,

If you haven't already - please review Mike Stoops' excellent thread "The Challenge of Delicate Paint" - very informative.

Depends - IME, the paint on newer Hondas tend to mar rather easily. On older Hondas, it seems to be harder. Here's a couple threads of mine that may help you out:

              2001 Accord

              2000 Odyssey

              2000 Accord

And on our 1990 Accord (daily driver) I can usually get by with just a one step compound/polish like Ultimate Compound or Poorboy's World SSR 2.5. What year and color is the Civic you will be working on?
