        This one looked promising:

        Auto Paint Supply Company, Inc.2026-A Chamberlayne Avenue | Richmond, VA 23222 | Phone: 804.321.6177 | Toll-Free: 800.468.5605 | FAX: 804.329.5012

I'd call before driving over. Maybe wholesale only or not have what you need. Remember it does not need to be a Meguiar's backing plate. There are others. Just make sure it is the right size.

Try Google for "paint body equipment" or auto parts stores. I don't think I've seen a backing plate at O'Reilly's, AutoZone or Advance Auto Parts, but you may get lucky.

A really ancient technique would be to look in the yellow pages in a phonebook.

Look for automotive detailing, drive to one of the listed businesses, promise them health care services in exchange for borrowing their backing plate.

I just called them, spoke to the nicest guy ever, and he said they have them!

          You sir, are awesome.

Now just hoping I don't get shot going into that area.

Just curious. Can't I just get a big piece of velcro and super glue it to the backing plate that it comes with?

Probably, but I'm not sure of the diameters of the different plates.

Worth a try, now that you also have a local source for a real backing plate in case you screw up.

                To anticipate your next question....

                Hobby Lobby Creative Center
                11280 W Broad St, Richmond, VA 23233
                (804) 364-2190

                for velcro

take your buffing pad with you to get the right facing on the velcro.

Murr's going to have to take over for awhile...I gotta go to work...

Remember that line from Jurassic Park - You were so worried about whether or not you could you didn't bother to think whether or not you should (or something to that effect). Yeah, don't.

Some results! I need opinions here!

                      Before

                      After SwirlX

                      After UC

                      After UP and UW

What do you think guys? Should I just use the UC then UP and UW?

Re: Taking a week to get everything done

                        Great results

Its all down to personal choice. What level is acceptable to you. How much do you want to refine the finish?

I have as mentioned earlier a black pearl. And really hard paint. I have found for me.

Ultimate compound on meg yellow pad.
Followed by swirl x on a meg yellow pad.
Followed by swirl x on a meg black pad.
Followed by dc01 on a meg black pad.
Followed by Dc02 on a meg black pad.
Followed by nxt tech wax 2.0

But I'm a bit ocd with my own car and god it shows .

My last detail was 40 hrs

Re: Taking a week to get everything done

From your pix it looks like you're getting similar defect correction using either SwirlX or Ultimate Compound. Do you see that in person too, or is there something different between the two that isn't showing up here? If you're getting basically the same end result, then stick with the less aggressive of the two - SwirlX. If you're getting hazing from Ultimate Compound but better defect correction overall, then go with it but follow with Ultimate Polish on a finishing pad, but work the UP much longer than you did the UC. It will stay wet and give you a long buffing cycle, and you can really refine the finish with it, bringing up max gloss and clarity. Finish with Ultimate Wax and you're good to go.

Overall though, it looks like you're getting outstanding results here. The overall improvement in the finish of your car is going to be incredible when you're done and we're confident you're going to be really happy you did all this. Great work, keep it up!!

Quick question. I didn't get the change to put on the second layer of wax. Can I put it on tonight and wipe it off in the morning?
