  • Static feeling gone after washing Microfiber towels...?

I received my new Meguiar's Supreme Shine Microfiber Towels yesterday, detagged and handwashed them last night using warm water and Dawn. I soaked them in a bucket for a few minutes, then rinsed them repeatedly with cold water to rinse all the soap out. Then I wrung them and hung them to dry. They were dry this morning.

The only thing is that they no longer have that static-feeling when you rub your fingers across them. Is this normal after a wash or first-wash? Did I screw up my towels somehow?

I dont think they should really have a static feeling.

Thanks. Maybe static wasn't the right word. I'm referring to the clingy and pulling feeling it has when you rub your finger across it. You know, like if you had a cut on your finger and tried it, it would actually hurt? Do you know what ah mean?

I definitely remember the towel having this property before I washed it.

That pulling feeling is fine. Many times, when I am folding microfibers right out of the dryer, I have that same feeling. Give it a few days and should dissappear.

Thanks Shawn, but I'm not saying I wanted it to disappear. It's actually the opposite. I'm saying that my new towels no longer have the pulling feeling! I know that the pull makes the towel more effective.

I'm asking, is the pulling feeling supposed to be gone after the towel is washed?

The pulling is only effective if the substance you are trying to pull up is of the opposite charge of the item doing the pulling.

Otherwise, it is the weave of the towel that does the work for you.

Supposed to be gone.....I don't know.

So after you wash your microfiber towels, they retain the same feeling?

Do you have any idea why mine are no longer "static/pulling" after I washed them?

It really doesn't matter if they pull or not. If they are soft and clean then they will work just fine.

Ok thanks. I don't want to say that my towels are more stiff, but without that pulling feel anymore, they don't feel quite asoft as they originally did.

Again, these are new microfiber towels never used. I just did that initial wash and they don't feel the same way they came.

just put them on the dryer machine after washing on low setting (NO softener in any case) I dry mine 15 min. After that they feels as new with that static feeling (Still I think that is mechanical anyways). I always machine wash and dry and they feels good as new.

                      Thanks Brian

Well now that I've seemingly lost that static feeling is it too late to get it back?

macmaster - Shawn gave a pretty good answer. We seem to be talking about two different things. Static Cling and Snagging. Either way if clean and dry, they will work just fine. My dry, rough hands don't always snag the fabric and depending on how and when I take them out of the dryer they may not be static charged.

Unfortunately, this reminded me of a song....sorry....

                        You've lost that static' feelin',

                          Hey guys,

So you guys might want to kill me, please dont! I just got home from work, felt my microfiber towels and they have that static cling to them! I must not have felt them well enough in the morning or they were not absolutely 100% dry from overnight. I'm so happy! Well I guess that would render this thread...useless! But thanks to everyone anyway.

Feel free to leave any other comments, I'll still read them.

maybe you not are charge statically when you feel it soft. I study the static charge in Phisics and we cannot get a conclusion without many factors, as wheater, humidity, your static charge, the static charge of the microfiber, what static charge? (negative or positive). Still if the feel is the same as I feel I dont think that it is static charge, I think that it is mechanically, think as velcro, the microfiber cloth will have very small threads that will hook on your fingerprints. Thats why you feel it. With use that threads will gone. Still having this or not, the product will work because this is only a side effect not is the thing that the microfiber uses to clean. All the phisics involving the microfiber can get extensive like any man mande material, the enginners and scientist works hard to produce better products and more complicated.

For me, I love the microfiber, All my products for wash polish and clean have microfiber.

Just dont wash or dry it with softeners!!!
