  • Car paint maintenance steps comes from leather?

I was looking how to preserve my leather shoes and I found in inthernet that the steps are
    • Clean
    • Condition
    • Polish
    • Preserve or Weatherproof
So its mainly the same as car paint maintenance:

    Clean
    Polish/glaze
    Wax

maybe this are the steps of many surfaces, just thinking.

I would not polish your leather.........

The steps I do are as follows:
    1) Clean
    2) Condition
    3) Optional-Protect (something like QID provides some UV protection and I believe Lexol makes a leather dressing/protectant called Neatsfoot)

      Iagree with the above steps

I am not as familiar with the consumer brands as the pro lines, however I love the aloe cleaner & conditioner from consumer line.

Not sure what color or kind of leather you have.

White & lighter colors can actually pick up dyes such as from new jeans & other clothing. In such a case , or that of a mildly stained surface from regular use it would be perfectly safe to use a interior boars hair brush (sold lots of places including ADS) along with Meg's gold class Aloe leather cleaner to thoroughly clean the surface. Though if not soiled a gentle wipe will do

Follow this by Meg's Gold Class Aloe conditioner & your leather is now protected & looking great. It even has UV protection

Most shoe polishes are formulated to take care of the steps you list in a single product.

With the finished leather upholstery found in 95% of modern autos there is no need to polish, condition or waterproof the leather as it has a urathane pigmentation that covers it so there is no need for these steps.

I think those are the basic steps for dealing with anything. Given different names sometimes, but usually the same idea.

Yea Murr thats was I though. Meguiars also have a single product for paint as well. Leather shoes are more difficult to mantain than leather for car seats because shoes is always very near of the ground and can get dirty very fast, I have smooth leather that is very easy but I have also suede leather and is a pain, I nedd constantly cleaning it. Is curious that the same names are used on car products and shoes products as well.

Meguiar's was founded in 1901 as a furniture polish company, and those were essentially the same steps we recommended way back then.

Could just be a carry over of terminology.... leather care was probably the first thing with products to care for it.

I agree. Polishes, conditioners, etc. for those 95% of vehicles is a pure waste of time and money. Nothing get absorbed through the urethane coating. You could wash them down with dish soap if you wanted, and get the same cleaning and "protection",
The only up side to doing all the nonsense is "it smells good"

Yeah, and in some way is logical that for most surfaces you do the same process. A los of surfaces that are porous need protection and or nourishing and maybe all surfaces need a protective coat like paint, wax, oil, etc..
