  • Question about a new DA

    Hello all
I was a Lowes today and noticed a Porter Cable 7346sp sander/polisher for $129 would this work good for a polisher, I am also a woodworker and like the idea that I can use this for another purpose. thanks for the help. here is a good link to see the tool http://www.toolbarn.com/portercable-7346sp.html

That machine will work as a DA polisher you just have to change the backing plate. Careful using the machine as both a sander and a polisher though, if you use it for wood, as dust can build up within the machine.

That tool will be perfectly fine as it is essentially the same as the PC 7424XP. Interestingly, doing a comparison of these two tools on the site Greg linked to shows what must be a typo or two - measurements and power specs are identical yet they list one tool as weighing half a pound more than the other, and shipping weights to be off by 10 pounds!

If memory serves, about the only real difference between the two is that one ships with just a foam pad while the other comes with that and a velcro backing plate for use with sanding discs.
