UQW on hot surface...

I used my UQW for the first time since buying it when it first came out, lol. The Neon looks superb! I used almost half the bottle as I was a bit excited I suppose (guess I'm going to need a gallon of the new X-Press Wax). Anyways, there were a couple of sections of the car that were still hot from being in the sun, and the UQW streaked. I did an extra application in these areas because it was drying faster, but the UQW should have still left the same amount of protection as on the rest of the car, yeah?

A little UQD and the streaks will be gone.

In the hot sun on a a black car, I have had UQW streak a little on me.

I'm pretty sure the amount of protection left on the surface was not compromised.

Yeah, cutting back some should help with the streaks also...

I just wanted to make sure there was enough on the paint since the surface wasn't cool.lol
I'm more concerned with the protection aspect of it vs. using too much though.

I understand that; same rule as regular waxes. I'm just curious if the protection is the same since the wax "flash" dried (which is why I applied quite a bit more than needed for the panels that were cool) as I was applying it due to the surface being hot.

Thinking about it, I didn't use 1/2 bottle. I remembered tonight, for some reason out of the blue, that I actually have used UQW twice before; once on my gigantic truck and the other time on the Neon at some point last year.

i use a MF applicator to spread the UQW around then buff off with a a few MFs....you will use less this way. When I 1st used my 1st bottle of UQW on my G35, i used up 1/2 a bottle as most of the product was soaked into the 7-8 MFs I used.
I'm not too worried as I have 5 bottles of UQW and 2 jugs of the synthetic x-press spray wax...i'm set for the next yr or so

Tyler, you should be just fine. While we do state that this product can be used on a warm surface in direct sunlight, you're still going to get optimum results with lower surface temps, especially on a darker colored vehicle. Keep in mind, too, that a black car in direct sunlight will get much hotter than a white car sitting right next to it.

But as for level of protection, you should have no negative impact from using it the way you did.

When detailing the cars that appeared on Car Crazy at SEMA this year we used UQW quite a bit - almost exclusively in fact - to maintain the cars over a four day period. All of the cars I was caring for were left outside, and it was sunny all four days.

That said, after some trial and error we (Jesse Teran, AKA HEMIN8R and I) that when working on a hot surface we would definitely only spray the UQW onto the microfiber towel (Supreme Shine in this case) and then very gently move it across the surface - and quickly.

We found we were able to avoid streaks with this technique and it was definitely leaving protection. We were able to touch the paint in the evenings and it was NIGHT and DAY between the cars or areas we had applied UQW and where we hadn't, even with full sun.

So I know the product *can* be applied in direct sun (some of these cars were so hot that touching the paint by accident with skin would instantly burn you) and it can work, but it takes a gentle touch, only 1-2 sprays onto the towel, and light, quick movement.

A little trial and error never hurts, either.

Ah Mark, thank you for the reply! It was your how-to video that I followed on the spray-on, wipe-off method. It seems I went in the opposite direction of what I needed to do; less vs. more. If spraying sparingly onto the towel worked for Jesse and you, I'll be following that next time and seeing what happens. The car being outside 24/7, sometimes I just can't avoid working in the sun. The note about the protection still being there is reassuring. Thanks bud!

The video I made is great for a clean car in a cool location, but for HOT HOT sun you need to adjust the technique a bit. I was blown away that ANY product would apply to the cars when we worked on them at the temperature they were... it quite literally could have far more than cooked an egg or boiled water.

Understood. Most of the car was in the shade, but from about the driver's door back to the trunk (only on that side), was in the sun. That's why I was worried about protection being left behind on the hot panels because it was only part of the car.
