    yellow pad destroyed

    well i was taking off some wetsanding scratches my friend must have not completely taken of when he used his rotary off my rear quarter panel...they really are not visable only in strong lighting...i was trying with a polishing pad and UC since i only have a DA and i ended up going in between speed 5 and 6 just for a min n when i took off the pad it was getting destryod in the inside...it was hot lol i guess i should have sticked with speed 5...it still grabs on to the backingplate but not as much.. but should i still use it? maybe only on speed 4 for polishing?? i dont wana throw away since its like the 3rd time i use it.

    what do u guys think?

    oh and by the way i did use speed 6 on a different polishing pad last week for a about a min too and nothing happened...

    just a note: that diffrent polishn pad i used on speed 6 was still the yellow one from meguiars...not another brand..just a diff pad

      First off, trying to removing sanding marks with a D/A and a W8207 pad is going to be an exercise in frustration; you usually need a whole lot more power than that!

      It appears you've discovered first hand why we don't recommend running the tool at speed 6! Doing so, especially with a good deal of pressure, can generate very high temperatures where the pad attaches to the backing plate, even though the face of the pad that contacts the paint is still (relatively) cool to the touch. We've measured temperatures in excess of 200F in extreme cases! That's enough to melt the adhesive that holds the hook & loop to the back of the pad, or even start breaking down the foam itself. Some laminated backing plates can even start to separate if this practice becomes your normal way of working.

      The most likely reason that you saw this on one pad and not the other is probably down to pressure differences with the two instances. It doesn't take much of an increase in pressure to start ramping up the temperature, and the temperature is the killer.

        yeah lol but the pads ok, i washed it..and it grabs on the same to the backingplate...speed 5 for now on lol
