  • New at detaling world, some questions...

    Hello everybody.
I'm just starting in this world of detailing.
Recently I've bought my brand-new car and wanted to give it the best care possible...
It's a 2011 Golf MK4,5 Silver (this one is only sold on Brazil, has nothing to do with those new gorgeous Golfs =\)

So I started to research and found about those incredible products from Meguiar's!
I've already read a lot of topics, FAQs and how-to. Also saw a lot of videos, but since I'm new at this, I still got some question.

Since I'm from Brazil and here the prices are veeeryy high for Meguiar's products, I'm going to buy a bunch of them from ADS and send by mail...
Can't wait to start working on my new car ^^.

Those are the products that I'm going to buy:

    Meguiar's Supreme Shine Microfiber 3 Pack x2
    Meguiar's Gold Class Car Wash
Meguiars Leather Cleaner & Conditioner Combo
Meguiar's Quik Out Carpet Stain Remover
    Meguiar's Natural Shine Protectant
Meguiar's Endurance High Gloss Tire Gel
Meguiar's Hot Rims All Wheel Cleaner
    Meguiar's NXT Generation Glass Cleaner
    Meguiars Ultimate Liquid Wax
    Meguiars All Metal Polish
    Meguiar's Deep Crystal Car Polish
    Meguiar's Ultimate Quick Detailer
    Meguiar's Applicator Pads, Pkg/4
    Meguiar's Ultimate Compound
Meguiar's Water Magnet Drying Towel x6
    Meguiar's Smooth Surface Clay Kit

Did I miss something important? I know i'm going to buy a lot of products, but I want to send them all at once, since It's a bit hard-working to import them...

Also would you guys suggest any change? Since I'm using It on a brand-new silver and brand-new black car (my uncle's car, an Hyundai i30).

    Thanks ;D

Re: New at detaling world, some questions...

It looks like you've got everything covered.

Maybe I would just replace Deep Crystal Polish with Ultimate Polish (new 2011 product). It is a cleaner polish (not like Deep Crystal Polish, which is pure polish) and it offers some cleaning ability (less than Ultimate Compound) and rich polishing oils. Ultimate Polish can remove small scratches, small to medium swirls and restore gloss.

You could also add Ultimate Quik Wax to your list as your maintenance product between detailing for adding wax protection. UQW works best after you wash your car and can be sprayed on top of any wax to boost gloss.

For all interior surfaces Quik Interior Detailer works well. You can even spray it on your stereo or navigation screen. For quick interior cleaning QID is absolutely great.

Now your VW is fully covered. Enjoy your rides.

Will you use a machine polisher or work by hand?

Not sure if ADS does international. I think you would have to have someone to ship to, and them mail it to you.

Can always do with a Grit Guard.

@greg: Oh nice tip about this Ultimate Polish, I will take it instead!

I was plaining to use just the UQD in between the washes, cause I live in an apartment and I can't wash the car in the garage, so I'm going to do It twice a month in some parent's house. So I was thinking of using just the UQD.

Should I use UQI with the Natural Shine or the NS can do it alone?

Also I'm going to apply everything by hand, since I don't have the DA yet. And It's kind expensive for me to start with.

@Murr: Yes, I'm going to use and Forwarding package service.
Also I never understood how this Grit Guard works...

One more thing, I'm thinking of replace the Wheel and Carpet Cleaner with the APC+. This would be cheaper and save me some shipping price... Would this work good?

You could still use UQW after UQD. I remember our Administrator, Mike Stoops, talked about it some time ago and it shouldn't be a problem.
If a vehicle is little dirty I usually use car duster before quick detailer and then many microfiber towels (especially for lower parts of the car, which tend to be dirtier).

Quik Interior Detailer can be used on any surface, including clear plastics, vinyl, rubber and even leather. You may use it also as a preparing cleaner before next step cleaning. It comes in 1 gallon size in Detailer Line as well.

Grit Guard protects all dirt from getting back on your wash mitt/ sponge by keeping it on the bottom of a wash bucket. You can also scrub your wash mitt/ sponges off dirt on its grit. Helpful tool.

All Purpose Cleaner Plus can be used on all exterior/ interior surfaces. It can be mixed 10:1 for light duty and up to 4:1 for heavy duty. It works fine on rubber, vinyl, plastic and leather. You could use it for tire clean up (not dressing though) but for wheels I prefer designated wheel cleaner. Just my opinion.

I second Greg's recommendation to add Ultimate Polish and Quik Interior Detailer to your list. You will need the former just in case Ultimate Compound should leave leave behind some marring, and given that the vehicles you are going to be working on are already in good condition, you will probably be using it a lot more often than UC anyway. QID is also a very useful product to have around.

And buy more applicator pads! You can't have too many. Ditto for the microfiber towels.

            Have fun!

UQD would be for light dirt. Going to be safest to wash every 2 weeks probably.

Should I use UQI with the Natural Shine or the NS can do it alone?
The Quick Interior Detailer is a light cleaner/duster and leaves some UV protectant. The Natural Shine has a little cleaning ability, but more protectant.

I tend to use a dressing, then QID a few times, then reapply the dressing. But some people just dress every time. A mild APC wipe down would also act as a mild cleaner before dressing.

@Murr: Yes, I'm going to use and Forwarding package service.
Also I never understood how this Grit Guard works...
As long as you have the standard 5 gallon size buckets (not sure of the dimensions, would have to check) it is a nice tool. Something to scrub your mitt on to get the dirt off ,and keep the dirt separated. You would want 1 bucket for dirty water + Grit Guard, then one for clean soapy water.

One more thing, I'm thinking of replace the Wheel and Carpet Cleaner with the APC+. This would be cheaper and save me some shipping price... Would this work good?
Yeah, APC is good stuff. I like a dedicated wheel cleaner also, but for tires, wheel wells, interior, carpets, vinyl, etc, etc, APC is good.

Thanks for all those answers! You guys are amazing!

So i'm going to add the APC and remove the Carpet Stain Remover, but stick with the wheel cleaner.
Also add more 3 microfiber towels and the QID, you guys made my mind... lol

I also changed the leather cleaner/conditioner to the aloe one, is it better? I read that the cream/gel ones least more then the spray ones, that's why I changed...

I would consider the Gold Class Leather Cleaner/Conditioner cream or gel. Not need for both on brand new leather.

And the APC can be used for stronger leather cleaning if needed.

I see the APC is a must have, very versatile product.
So I'm going with that. The Gold Class Aloe Cleaner and Conditioner.

Thank everybody for all the answers! Now I'm more confident about the products that I'm going to buy. As soon as they arrive here I would certainly post some pictures!

The Aloe is the 2-step system usually... not sure if we are refering to the same products.

Re: New at detaling world, some questions...

Well... I only found the Aloe one on the ADS, since I'm going to buy everything from there, I had to choose that.
They also have the spray and gel ones, but I'm think I would be more comfortable with the 2-steps...

Also I was wondering... How am I supposed to clean/wash the applicators, wash mitt and microfiber towels?
Can I just put them in the washing machine with regular cloth soap?

I was refering to something like this:

Dont see the cream on there.

I tend to wash my applicator pads in a bucket of Dawn. The MF mitt and towels can be machine washed. Just keep MF seperate from cotton.

And yeah, maybe want to buy a couple extra applicator pad packs, or a bigger package.
