  • Need Advise on Detailing w/o Garage

Hi guys, I'm planning to detail my own car after a bad experience on my 1st detailing session; I'm from the Philippines where it is hot and dusty. I plan to buy a retractable tent to cover the car from the sun since I don't have a garage and another problem is the dust since we're located near the road. As said in the forums, we need to work on a dust-free area so I'm not sure if detailing myself is a good idea.

Thanks in advance for your inputs.

This one has me stumped. Check back later and I'll see what bright idea may pop into my coconut

One thing you could try is to hose down the entire area your working in and place fans blowing away from your area

I'll see if I can come up with something better. Check back later

I plan to follow the 5-Step Paint Care Cycle as recommended here and I'm still assembling the tools. I'll be having it hand detailed at first since I still have to buy the dual polisher; here are the products that I have right now:

        Smooth Surface Clay Kit
        SwirlX
        ScratchX 2.0
        Deep Crystal Polish
        NXT Generation Tech Wax 2.0
        Ultimate Quik Detailer

You may find that you can wash and clay the whole car. (note washing/claying in the rain would be ok, as long as you could dry after.)

You may find that you have to QD a panel, use the SwirlX, etc to clean it, then polish, then wax all at once. Then while the wax dries, start and qd, clean the next panel. Work till the wax dries, etc, remove it, apply next coat, work on the next panel, that kind of thing.

If you are going ot buy a machine later, I wouldnt make swirl removal a giant priority now, which will help you move along faster.

Thanks for the inputs, I'm planning to buy a thin sheet of cloth and cover the 3 sides of the tent (3m x 6m) facing the road while detailing. Looks to me it will solve the issue of dust from the passing vehicles.
