  • My cars back to stage one :(

Hi Guys. When I did my detail on my Saab 900 I thought it looked great, till today. It had rained a bit on the car, so this morning when it was dried I checked it out. There are tons of water spots covering the car, yet the water is still beading to prove that there IS wax still on the car. It seems as if whenever I clean my car I believe it looks great, until a day or 2 later, any tips I should keep in mind? btw, when I cleaner the car, I only used a lambswool wash mit, I did not use the other mesh side.

    Cheers.

The water spots have dried whilst still on the paintwork, basically what is left behind (the 'spot') is the mineral deposits that were in the actual water! This is perfectly normal mate, water spots will happen in light rain conditions, when the rain isn't heavy enough to flush all the water off the panel.

The wax is doing it's job, acting as a sacrificial layer to protect the paint, otherwise these water spots have the potential to actually eat into the clearcoat!

Just give the car a good soft water rinse to sheet most/all the water off the panel, and then go over it with a QD spray straight away. This will help to boost the wax protection you've previously applied, and it will keep it looking good for another couple of days!

Great way to maintain the look between washes! Should only take 15 minutes max.

wow, thx for the fast reply, in what you just wrote, I was able to fully understand what the water spots are now, cheers I was freaking out thinking that I had done a **** cleaning job and waxed right over old water spots. I will clean the car tomorrow, should I use ultimate quik detailer over the WHOLE body? or just where the spots are obvious?

Also, If I want to touch up scratches on the car and there is that initial wax coat that I have applied, should I just go over that layer? or buy some alcohol swabs?

      Cheers.

        No worries mate!

Best to at least rinse the water spots off first (or even just wash the car) - this way the surface is as clean as possible, so the UQD will last a little longer!

Use the UQD over the whole body, at least you've ensured even coverage that way.

If you wanted to touch up scratches, you will need to remove any wax coating you've previously applied. Don't use alcohol swabs, use something like Prepsol, or a dedicated 'wax & grease remover', or get some Isopropyl Alcohol.

Otherwise you're just applying paint on top of a wax coat, so when the wax wears away, so will the paint on top of it!

Gr8, thanks alot for the help mate. I got a fairly good amount of wax and grease remover from Repco today for only $12, so it will last me a while I reckon :P cheers mate.
