  • sticky mud & LT questions

    dear all,

it is rainy season here, and the road condition is really bad. Mud every where, and sticky.

Can you share your experience to me how to clean this sticky mud? Using high presurre water, or medium presurre water with hand, or just spray it to make the panel wet and let the washmitt and GC shampoo do the rest? Sometimes, on some parts of my car panel (lower parts), it is stick so hard so I have to use bug and tar removal to clean this mud.

I also have LT, by 1:1 dilution with water, I can use it as clay lubricant, but it is also say, it is ready to use. When and for what purpose we use LT without dilute it?

And, what is final inspection? when we apply this? What is the difference between last touch, final inspection, QD, UQD, or even 1:1 water:IPA?

I use IPA+water 1:1 after compunding, just to make sure no compound left behind before polishing and waxing my car. Is this step correct?

    Thank you.

Re: sticky mud & LT questions

I was in Arkansas this past for a couple of days duck hunting. I really dread cleaning my truck and Rhino. The mud was so thick you could not even walk in it. I am also not sure on how get this off without making swirls.

whenever You have mud this bad it's best to high pressure wash it off before using a bucket and mitt. I always go to one of the drive-thru wash bays. Do not use the brush they provide though!

Final Inspection: Body shop safe quick detailer. It is great to remove light dust or even to help remove compound or polish residue.

Last Touch: A very economical quick detailer. When used at full strength it offers unparalleled lubricity and uses gloss enhancers to amp up the shine. It can also be diluted 1:1 as use as an economical clay lube.

Quik Detailer (Maroon Bottle): It's a basic quick detailer that offers good lubricity and a good shine. It can also be used as a clay lube. Can be purchased in either 16 oz. or 32 oz. bottles.

Ultimate Quik Detailer: A fantastic quick detailer used to remove light dust, fingerprints, etc. It uses hydrophobic polymers that create a coating on the surface but do not provide the protection of a wax. It enhances gloss and creates a very slick surface. It can not be used as a clay lube. M135 Synthetic Spray Detailer is essentially the same product but can be purchased in gallons.

IPA Mixture: Used to wipe down a polished surface in order to remove any residual oils from the surface. It allows the user to see the true condition of the paint.

If you have a lot of mud on the surface of your car then it is recommended to knock it off in some fashion before touching the car. If you can not reach a hose, pressure washer, etc. then I recommend the following. Spray the surface with an all purpose cleaner and let it sit for about 15-20 seconds. Spray Last Touch liberally at full strength on the surface and allow it to sit for about 5 seconds. Wipe the area very slowly and carefully with a microfiber towel constantly turning the towel to a clean side. The method is not perfect but I have used it several times on my dad's truck with great results.

Another alternative is to buy a waterless wash like CroftgateUSA Aquanil-X which may help further to lift the dirt away from the paint before wiping the paint.
