    Detail, wax, or just wash vinyl stripes on GT500

    Should I just regularly wash or should i polish or should I wax the vinyl stripes on my 2010 GT500?

    I have satin silver stripes and I have looked in several locations and every place has a different opinion. I dont want to damage the stipes as they are more than $2k to replace.

    Thoughts? Definate answers?

    Nothing freaks me out worse then these matte stripes. I have polished over them before with 205, but usually just tape them off

      Your best course of actions is to tape them off with painters tape or the Meguiar's tape completely as to not mess them up at all when working on the surrounding paint

      I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.
      I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
      Remove swirls my friends.

        Not all vinyl is the same. Some vinyl mfgrs. state it's OK to wax theirs and others say NEVER use wax on them as it tends to dry them out. Over many years detailing RVs with vinyl graphics, I have experienced both good and bad but mostly bad results from using wax on the vinyl. I think it would be best to use a vinyl specific product like Ultimate Protectant.

            I would be interested to hear what they say- My new Mustang has black matte decals. I've been using UQW without a problem.

              If they are a matte finish,dont wax over them. If they are a glossy finish they usually take wax ok. I had a 1972 red Cuda with black matte stripes,always stayed off of the matte finish with the wax.
              I now own a Dodge Hemi Sport truck which has a gloss hemi sport decal which takes wax ok.
