  • Tech Wax 2.0 Dissapointment

I bought the tech wax 2.0 for my infiniti I35, Meguiars is th ONLY car care products i will use on this car, and i wasnt happy with the out come of my use of this products. I used the wax twice, once without the buffer and once with and it didnt seem to give the shine i anticipated.I was in a way dissapointed with meguiars, i dont know if im doing something wrong, i pre washed with the gold class wash.dried with the blower and towel, and waxed the car..PLZ give me advice..im thinking i may try buying wax and my car care products from mothers??!!

Well, looks is a personal thing, so a certain part is up to your eyes.

However, maybe a little more info, what age is the car, color? Any chance of pic?

      Re: Tech Wax 2.0 Dissapointment

Every wax/sealant has its own look, and which one one prefers is ultimately a matter of personal preference. Many here on MOL love NXT. Others prefer Gold Class. Still others, M26. By all means, therefore, do try different protects, whether produced by Meguiar's, Mother's or someone else, and discover which one you like best.

But the professional detailers will tell you that the polishing of the paint, i.e., removing swirls and scratches through machine polishing and making the surface as smooth as possible, is what ultimately produces a show car shine. The choice of wax/sealant is merely the cherry topping. Without the proper prep work, you probably will not get the level of shine you are looking for.

Calm down and tone it down...
Did you properly prepare the paint for wax? Clay? Cleaner wax? Simply washing and going strait to wax isn't always a grand slam.
Revisit Ur process, ensure your paint mf's and applicators are clean and give it another try. If it doesn't work the way you like it, hire a pro.

              Re: Tech Wax 2.0 Dissapointment

I've not actually read anywhere (other than here) where a user is disappointed with the finish of NXT2. There's plenty os users who experience poor longevity.

As said previously it is down to the eye more than anything, but the key to a good look is the prep. You say you've used a buffer so have you machine polished the paint?

The paint is most likely poorly prepped.

Are you letting the wax properly cure before you remove it?

Okay you clayed the paint. That is good. What did you use to clean the paint? This could be the reason you are not getting the results you want.

Are you saying that this particular car looks better in another wax you have used on it? If yes, then the solution is easy: go back to the wax that looks better in your eyes. As Mike Phillips likes to say, "Find something you like and use it often."

I have not found that claying improves the gloss or shine of my cars, though perhaps it does and I just can't see the difference. I'm sure claying helps the wax to adhere better to the paint surface and it sure makes the paint feel smooth; but I do not expect it to improve gloss, at least not on a car that is already in pretty good shape.

It may well be that no wax is going to significantly alter or improve the visible appearance of your car. If you really want to intensify gloss, then you need to polish the paint with a dual action polisher. But in the meantime, try one of Meguiar's glazes--e.g., Deep Crystal Polish or M07 Show Car Glaze. Apply the glaze (one small section at a time) and buff off--then apply NXT (or whatever). Depending on the color and condition of the paint, you might see some additional wetness.

Have you read this article: Meguiar's 5-Step Paint Care Cycle.
