needing help on black truck

Hello All
I have a black Ford Ranger that we got after my uncle passed away, It was the truck he drove all the time and the paint is very dul,l it's a 93 with a clearcoat.
my plan is to
1: wash with deep crystal, 2: use ultimate compound removing with my buffer (cheepy from wal-mart) 3: polish with deep crystal polish, 4: wax with gold class past wax.
these are the products I have on hand, does this sound like the proper procudure? it has some rusty spots on the hood that I may not have time to fix now and will work on latter.
this is the first time to take on a project like this so any help will be greatley apreciated.

I don't have any pictures now but will take before and after.

I want to thank ya'll for the resoponses, I started on the truck today and took a few pics. looks like it will take going over a few times and will do more tomorrow.

using uc, I have been over the entire truck 1 time the fenders and doors are looking good but the hood and roof need more work. I don't have a da just a cheep 6" from wal-mart so it will take more time and elbow grease.
