  • Never been attacked by salt.......so........

my dads MR2 Spyder has been sitting in his garage for a few weeks now. He wants to move it to mine but there is salt on the roads. If he drives it over here (bout 8 miles) is the salt concentration going to be minimal or is this a bad idea no matter what?

Any products or processes we can do? I hand waxed it with NXT not too long ago (and few miles driven ago) so the painted part will be fine. I am worried about the underneath.

Prethanks for responses and presorry if this is posted in the less then stellar location.

The exterior will be fine...You need to rinse the bottom if you are going to store it afterwords, or if you plan to let it sit for awhile to reduce corrosion efforts.

I'd say, wait until the roads are dry before you drive it over. Then spray out the wheel wells good before storing it. Other than that, wait for spring and a good cleansing rain.

Oh, and welcome to the forum.

If its never seen salt before in its life, then leave it where it is.

I'd drive it over on a day when the roads are dry. If it is going to be stored there for the winter, I'd put down a couple layers of visqueen on the garage floor as a moisture barrier.

Even dry, previously salted roads, will get salt all over the car in the form of a fine dust.

Thanks guys. That was exactly what I was looking for. Leave it where it is. Now let me see if I can convince my dad to do that for 3 months.
