You may want to start with SwirlX first, then move to UC if needed.

What are you working on or trying to accomplish?

It all depends on the type of correction you need.

Ultimate Compound is an aggressive paint cleaner and SwirlX is cleaner/ polish. If you face deep scratches, heavy swirls or moderate oxidation probably UC would be more suitable for those challenges. But as said before small test spot would be a smart approach to see how your paint reacts to product.

You can use either product on unprotected (wax free) surface.

The scratches in the first picture can be improved, or minimized, but not removed. The ones in the second picture are not going to be able to be removed. I don't even think they can be improved. Good luck.

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

I agree. Not much hope for the second scratch.

Finger nail test is pretty accurate: if your finger nail gets stuck while moving through the scratch then it's too deep for compounding. In that case you need to do a touch-up with original paint (base coat/ clear coat) or repaint the entire panel.

Fresh paint has to be even after touch-ups to make it blend with original paint better and it gets done by wet/ damp sanding, compounding and polishing (in most cases it requires rotary buffer).

You could also round-up the edges of the scratches with aggressive compound to make them look nicer and then cover them with glaze, wax, but it's just a temporary solution.
