  • Thanks Meguiars to bring back the beauty of my car

First of all, thank you very much for providing such a great line of products. This is first time I tried to detail my car, it is not only fun but I also felt that I saved money and had the satisfaction of working on my car. I have a black color car, and it looks beautiful, after doing all 5 steps. I don’t have garage, so I park on the road, when I was working on my car, lot of people passing on the sidewalk complimented about the look of my car and its shine, of course because of the Maguir’s product and 6 hours of my hard work, it looks beautiful now. I washed then used the clay bar, then used the swirl x, not happy with the results of swirl x specially if you use swirl x by hand and not the DA applicator, but any way as this was my first time, I did not wanted to use the heavy stuff, so next time I will be using either Scratch X or some rotary applicator. Any way after that I used the polish then NXT wax then second layer of wax. Car shines as it was new. Planning to do the whole process again after the winter.
Now my question is, do I need to wax every time I wash the car? I am planning to wash once every 2-3 week. I think I don’t need to repeat all 5 steps every time I wash the car. What process should you recommend me to follow now to keep it looking beautiful? Do I need to use some special soap to wash the car so that it don't strip the wax for long time?
The place i live we have dusty environment, also i park outside, so when i go to the office in the morning i see a layer of dust particle on my car, what is the best method to remove that dust without making any damage, i don't think wash every day will be a good idea or feasible.
Also as I said I used the swirlx, but not happy with the results, so I am thinking to use the scratch x next time. If I decide to use the scratch x after a month or two then do I need to repeat all 5 steps again, or I can wash then scratch x and then wax the car (skip clay and polish)?

Thanks for reading my post and helping a beginner like me

Removing swirls by hand is tough, though you can try Ultimate Compound as well. I'd say no one gets removing stuff right the first time.

Using Ultimate Quick Wax after a wash is a great idea.

Some people like the California style dusters. Others just leave it.

You would want UC, not ScratchX. And plan on something like a panel or two a day.

For after winter, claying will likely be a good thing. But claying is not 'always needed', just when the paint feels like it needs it. However polishing is optional.

If doing by hand, def do a panel at a time.. if you try to do the whole car, you will get really tired and tend to go half for the remainder of the car...

        Thanks Murr1525 for the reply.
Yesterday i purchased the UC so i am thinking to try that on the door panel first and see how it goes. Do UC strips a prominent layer of clear-coat, is it gonna be safe to use on the whole car or only places where the scratches are, by the way i have swirl-marks on whole car, they are not heavy swirls but very light?

I didn't do the 5 steps on the bumpers because i was thinking it is made of plastic though it is painted. Can we use the UC, polish and wax on the bumpers too?

NXT and polish says not to use on plastic or rubber, so what product will you recommend for the plastic grill in the front and rubber gasket around the front and back windshield and rubber around the side windows ?

        Thanks again

I agree, it has to be one by one, if done by hand.

No, not too much. Swirls are very very shallow, but the way the light reflects makes it look worse. Scratches can be deeper, and some scratches just cane be removed of course.

You will want to use a smooth foam or microfiber applicator. Terry cloth + UC can get pretty strong and leave some hazing. Remember the products need worked in with some passion/effort, not just wiped around.

Yes, you'll be treating the paint, not the plastic or metal under it.

For exterior use, the Ultimate Protectant should work well, and be easier to find.

BTW, they do mean like the gray textured plastic for dressings, not the painted plastic that can be cleaned/waxed.
