what up well i recently got my rear bumper repainted

the guy at the shop who painted it said it was a 2 stage(2 stage is the type of paint my car originally came with by the way)

but my friend said it looks like a one stage...i only got ultimate compound at the moment...can i use that to determine if i have one stage or 2..or do i have to use another product?

also my paint is pearl..i thought pearls had to be 2 stage??is this true...

also how can i go about workin on my bumper if its one stage? i wetsanded the rest of my car n buffed with compound followed by glaze...same procedure on a onestage?thats if it is onestage

    Re: few questions

2 stage paint would be base coat/clear coat(bc/cc) paint where single stage(ss) is just a color coat. Your car was most likely repainted with bc/cc do match the rest of the car. If you're unsure you can always use a product that has paint cleaning ability(cut) like ultimate compound to determine this by working a small area and seeing if the applicator you're using turns the color of your paint which would indicate ss paint if no color appears on the applicator then it was refinished with bc/cc. When testing use a light applicator if your car is dark or a dark applicator if your car is dark so the paint pigment will be visible. All the processes that can be done to bc/cc paint can also be done to ss paint such as wet sanding (where term color sanding came from) and they can be buffed out as well though this process must be dialed in to the specific paint on the vehicle through a test spot as every vehicles paint is a little different regardless of being bc/cc or ss.

        Re: few questions

On a Clearcoat, the top coat is clear. So you will 'see' clear paint on your pad. If you see color, you're in trouble.
