Does anyone use different colored microfiber towels for different stages of detailing? For example green for cleaning (interior) or yellow for polishing(Exterior).

Re: Microfiber
I'm not too finicky on what microfiber touches my paint. I have not experienced any marring from any Wal-mart towel I've bought.
But, I don't use different colors.Tedrow's Detailing

I wish I had kept better track of where I purchased all the different microfibers I now use. With the exception of Supreme and Ultimate Shines, I've picked them up at variety of local auto stores. I have some dark blue ones I originally thought were going to be bad, but after several washing and vinegar rinses, they are used strictly for cleaner and polish removal - love'm for that. I have similar green ones for glass. Some similar orange ones for clay-barring. Some small light blue ones for interior work.
Like J.A., I use the Meguiar's for final wax removal and then later for Ultimate Quik Detailer or Wax. So white and yellow for everything after the corrections are complete.
I bought some "fuzzy" white ones I thought would be great because they are so soft. WRONG, they absorb nothing.
So yes by color, but some what by thickness. Thicker early on for the heavy work, thinner to end up. Again a noobs take on microfiber use. Others will have better, more experienced advice.

Re: Microfiber
I think I know which fuzzy ones you're talking about. Did they come from Autozone and were they called Spa towels or something like that? I have to agree that they absorbed nothing. I fell into the trap also.Tedrow's Detailing

Re: Microfiber
I use the cheaper MFs to remove paste wax.....no issues... but the final buff or when I use spray wax/ detail spray I use the premium shag MFs...works great

Re: Microfiber
I guess that I use different colored microfiber towel because it helps me to assign jobs and to remember to use a clean microfiber. This is so i don't use a rag that I used to clean my interior to buff wax off. For me I know that if I grab a green towel then I use it to clean if blue to remove wax or polish and yellow to do a final buff. I also have orange for wheel drying and of course my drying towel are really big so they don't get mixed. Its a way to help me stay organized since a detail regimen can be very lengthy

Re: Microfiber
I agree with trying to do a coordinated effort kristina. When I bought my first pretty huge supply of mf towels from The Total Pros, he sold yellow towels for interior, blue for windows and green for the exterior. I'd love to keep it the same way but I'm finding it hard to locate the same mf's.John @ HillCityAutoDetail.com

Re: Microfiber
I've got 2 cobra super plush purple towels I use for removing of wax/polish. 2 cobra weave towels used for drying, tons of cheap walmart/target towels for interior, jams and other random stuff, then about 7-8 yellow supreme shines if I'm doing a big job with multiple steps or claying.
Not color coded or anything, but I do only use certain towels for certain steps.

Re: Microfiber
I wish I could keep a consistent color code for towels. And I try to as much as I can. But you can't find all the various types and sizes of towels in multiple colors.
My basic system for plush weave (terry) microfibers is:
white, gold, yellow - exterior paint
blue - interior surfaces
red - secondary areas (door jambs, trunk channels, etc)
for other types of towels I just have to remember the use for each one:
waffle weaves (all colors but olive) - drying
olive waffle weaves - wheels
low nap "glass towels" - glass
shag weave - exterior paint quick detailing
If I was starting a collection from scratch I'd probably try to be more consistent.
