You make an excellent point. My growing concern is if the thread gets hijacked, will I be able to tell?

Perhaps neither? Could be that you are laying more paint down (adding a post), so this thread is now above the other threads haha

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

      I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
      Remove swirls my friends.

Well, I was mostly playing along with the thread. In actuality, this "thread" exists as a database field that has multiple attributes. One of those attributes is the date and time modified. Then the forum web code is written so that when a web browser loads the page including the code, the code executes a query that looks at the database and returns threads listed in the order of the last modification; along with rendering other parts of the code such as the graphics, how many pages to a post, bolding posts, etc. Each time the browser loads the page this happens, thus the reordering when you refresh.

This is of course a loose 30k foot example of what is happening much like "leveling the paint around a swirl" is a broad, layman explanation of the physics of the task. I am actually much better at understanding and implementing internet initiatives than I am at leveling paint; but detailing is more fun.
