  • Deep Crystal Polish Question

I've been using the Deep Crystal Polish on a dual action polisher but I find wiping off takes a bit more effort.

I used the same product on an applicator pad and wiping product off is a breeze.

    Anyone know why?

I'm at the point where I might use deep crystal polish with an applicator pad as I find it much faster to finish my truck than using on a DAP.

Are the results better using this product on a DAP than an applicator pad? If yes then any tips on making this product work on a DAP would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Do be honest, I can't tell, they both look good. But using the form applicator wipes off easier.

If you get the same results. But using a foam applicator is easier to remove, that is the way I would do it then.

For me at least, using a machine is easier and I might use more product per square foot or work it longer so...

When using a DA compared to by hand with an applicator:
Are you using more or less product per square foot?
Are you working a larger or smaller area before wipe off?
Do you work the work area longer or shorter amount of time?
Is your work area larger or smaller?
Do the areas, before wipe off, look different?

As J.A. indicated, if the areas look the same, use the easiest method.

Sounds like the product is drying out on you. Restrict your work space, to say 24" x 24" (or smaller). Do a single pass and buff off immediately. See if that works for you.

                ^^What Al said. I personally like a 16" x 16" area.

All excellent points. While DC Polish, like M07, can be applied either by hand or D/A it is important to use proper technique when doing it either way. The notes mentioned above should help you on the path to proper D/A application of a pure polish.

Even so, and this is a totally personal perspective here, pure polishes are the only products that I prefer to apply by hand. For me personally I get a better feel for how well it's worked to the paint and when it starts to drag just a tiny bit on the pad I know it's time to wipe off. All of that feel, at least for me, is gone when applying with a D/A. But so many guys get great results applying a pure polish with the D/A that it's impossible for me to say they shouldn't do it that way - use what works best for you, and what you're most comfortable with.

                    Re: Deep Crystal Polish Question

Thanks for the tips guys. Much appreciated. I will put them to use. Still a newbie at this car detailing stuff. Never thought I would be one of those car guys. But it's been fun and addictive. To the point where I am using UQD and Quick Wheel Detailer after every drive. Is this normal behavior or have I gone pass insane and need to check myself into AA (Automobile Anonymous) Anyway thanks for the tips.

If that's your car in your avatar, I can see why you would become "one of those car guys." Beautiful vehicle. And black, too!!!
