  • Yellow Applicator pad substitute?

All my yellow soft foam applicator pads are over and they are out of stock out here. In fact, all types of applicator pads are out of stock . Luckily, have just one left which I got with Nxt2.0 wax. So I wanted to know what could I use in place of pads for the following?

    SwirlX?
    ColorX/Cleaner Wax?
    DC Polish?
    Ultimate Protectant?
    Rubbing Compound?

Look elsewhere. Try Dollar General, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Autozone etc. There out there, you just have to keep looking

You could also use Cotton or Microfier apps. If you prefer foam, just rip the material off either of these and you will find foam

Applicators are usually an online order unfortunately.

I stumbled across some at a place called Theisens. Might be a rural sort of store not in your area.

Thanks guys. But aren't there any substitutes? Can't I use anything else?

You could apply things with a MF towel I suppose, probably as close as possible to a MF applicator.

Terry cloth is a bit agressive, though usually easiest to find.

I have lots of MF towels so will try with those. And how long can you wash and reuse the foam applicators?

Havent bought any for myself in a couple years... Dont recall when I last threw one out.

Just dont wash them and put them in a sealed bag.. leave them open.

Oops! I threw some away couple of days back coz I thought I shouldn't be using them over and over again
Anyways, I will be using MF towels for applying ColorX and DC Polish. Hope I get good results. Thanks

Just do a small spot, take a good look at it before doing the whole car to make sure it goes well.

I've had a few rip up in the wash lately but I think that was my fault because I had the machine on Heavy Duty. Otherwise they are very sturdy.

You could probably get away with terry for the cleaning steps (it will work the best out of the three materials), and then use MF for the last two. If you have any micromarring from the terry pads in your test spot, you could redo that step with a MF pad instead.

                          Re: Yellow Applicator pad substitute?

Another Question. As you all know the soft foam app pads are out of stock in my area. They would be unavailable for a month at least. However, I found some soft sponge/foam in a local hardware store. The feel and softness is similar to that of yellow Foam Applicator pads. I was planning to get this in bulk and then cut it to the required applicator pad size so I can use this for detailing. Tell me what you guys think...

Ehh... maybe. Can always do a test spot....

You can probably order online quicker than get them locally.

Go to topoftheline.com and type in "wax applicator foam" and you can get 6 for $3. I would stock up and get a dozen or so, so you don't have to worry about not having enough. Call and ask if they can ship it via USPS for a small fee in a mailer and I would imagine shipping wouldn't be more than $3, and you don't have to pay tax as well (assuming you don't live in their state).
