  • I keep telling myself...

I keep telling myself, "I'll get up real early Saturday morning and polish my car." Weekends are the only times I can do it but I never get around to it. The last time I polished my car was in the summer. I've washed it about 2 or 3 times since. I feel really bad because I know I get a kick out of using my PC. The swirls in my car are NASTY! I really want to do it this saturday. My car is a mess on the outside. I should feel ashamed...

Can a MOL member get a little encouragement?

    Hey,

Sometimes, daily life begins to take a toll. After while, you stop going to the gym, stop going for those walks, and even stop detailing your car.

But, the fact is, it is those very activities that will help break up the day-in, day-out, overworked blues! Just spending an afternoon doing something you enjoy will make life more enjoyable!

The first time you turn on the PC, and touch the paint, you will realize what it was that made you enjoy it so much. Plus with the skills you have obtained, you can now feel the accomplishment of a swirl free finish, and say to yourself, "I did that!" When the car/truck is complete, you will sit back and wonder why you did not find the time to do something for yourself, sooner!!

How about posting some pics before and after your detail this Saturday?

Don't feel too bad, I probably haven't wax'd my car in 2 months (I know shame on me), though it has been washed with some regularity. All the times I swore I was going to do my own car I ended up working on someone else's. I finally found some time to devote to my car, I washed it, sprayed some APC on it as I had intended on doin the full shabang on it, clayed it, even gave the underside a good degreaser spray then rinse. I get just done claying and I'm about to walk inside to get out the PC and some polish and wax and my phone rings.

It's my mother stranded at the bank as her car won't shift out of park. So I pack up and go to the rescue. We get it in gear finally and get it home, park it, same thing happens no shifting (this is an automatic btw). I notice there's a little illuminated put your foot on the brake icon by the shifter thats not turning off. And this leads to me noticing the car has no brake lights. So this gets me ready to potentially track down some little electrical demon, but I decide to look online first. Turns out Volkswagen has a very long track record of bad brake light switches.

So the next day, 3 screws, a removed cover, and a $8 new switch with some help on it's complicated installation from vwvortex I'm the hero who fixed the car. But my car still sits clean but unprotected in the garage . But come to think of it now that you mention it I do have some time tomorrow.

P.S. thankyou so much Volkswagen for ruining my detail time
      Later,
      Ricky

Well, the weather here for the weekend looks a bit rainy, unfortunately. Maybe it won't though.

Well you've detailed your car before right? Shouldn't that be all the encouragement you ever need? One of the best ways to get that motor started is to buy a couple of new products and test out new combinations. Worked for me all these years!

Tomorrow. Yep, tomorrow. 33oF as a high and I am REALLY REALLY eager to get rid of the salt that is caked on on the lower parts of the car plus I want to get rid of some minor swirls on the hood, rear hatch and the gigantic roof. Also, wanna try the Hot Shine.

Then on Monday, it's going to be the beater with maybe 1 coat of #80, 2 ColorX and 1 or 2 NXT.

My wife saids that if I catch pneumonia, it's not her fault.

I've never actually have pneumonia before. My family hasn't really except my younger son. He nearly always manages to catch every late Nov- December. I've spent two Christmasts in the Hospital! This winter and another one has only been ones that he didn't catch it but we had a close call (we have a storage of breath-in medications that we replenish Mid Nov.) and the at home meds saved him from getting worse and that night I actually got to stay home instead of going to the E.R at 4 in the morning (*knocks wood*)

Poor thing. And he's only 8.

                            Hey,

Can you not get a pneumonia shot? Up here I can get them and they last, I believe, 5 years. May be worth a try! I do feel sorry for the little guy as I know how painful pneumonia can be!

Pneumonia is a bacteria or virus, depending on the form. You don't get it from being cold. You normally have to catch it from somebody else. A minor sinus infection or bronchitis can predispose you to pneumonia if you let it go for too long without treatment. I've never had pneumonia, but bronchitis is bad enough!

Pneumonia shots are good for 5 years, my allergist told me that.

Also indoor heating dries you out and makes you more susceptible to respiratory infections. That is the real cold weather connection.

Most of us up north get discouraged because we can't detail as much as we want to. More time snowblowing means less time detailing. I finally washed the goat today. I went 4 weeks without washing it. Until today it was white, not Impulse Blue.

As others have said, trying out some of the new products is a great way to pick up your spirits! I tried the Speed Detailer and the Insane Tire Shine. They are both great products! The shine provided by both of them is incredible. I may try the NXT Paste tomorrow.

Winter came early and I got caught by surprise. I never got to finish claying and waxing the rear fenders and bumper so I am still playing catch up! Even on those areas the Speed Detailer did a very good job.
