Chrome Wheel protection

I'm well aware that meguiar's recommends any of their waxs and sealants can be applied to wheels. My question is with proper application and frequent enough applications (once a month or so) can I expect protection from megnesium chloride etchings on my wheels and other chrome pieces. Has meguiar's ever tested a sealant on wheels against Mag Chloride? The Cold weather finally arrived in Colorado and the state coats all the roads in Mag Chloride when it's supposed to snow

I'm assuming the wheels in your sig are aftermarket. If indeed they are, don't make the mistake i did. Brand new wheels on my truck, i figured, if i keep wax on em and wash em often i should be fine. WRONG! Ruined the set in one winter. Just save yourself the pain and put the stockers back on till spring.

Don't count on a wax or sealant to provide a barrier against Magnesium Chloride or even plain old fashioned road salt. That stuff is incredibly harsh and some places even use a binder of sorts with it to help it stick to the roads better. Unfortunately, that also makes it stick to your car better.

Chrome is pretty stout stuff - keep it clean and dry and it can and will last a very long time. Of course, "clean and dry" are impossible on a road that has been salted or mag-chlor'd, so regularly pressure washing to get that stuff off is going to be your best bet.

Consider this - anything can etch paint, chrome, etc is not going to be stopped by any wax or sealant that you pour out of a bottle and leave on your car in a microscopically thin layer.

If you really love your wheels, whether aftermarket or stock, chrome, aluminum, painted or any combo thereof, get yourself a set of steelies and some winter rubber.
