  • What to use on vinyl convertible top

Just bought my fiance a 90 Mustang GT Convertible with a black vinyl top. Ive never owned a convertible, what should I use to clean/condition the top? I do have Megs #40 vinyl/rubber cleaner, would that do well?

That should work but if the car sits outside then I would use something else because #40 is a waterbased dressing and will run off from dew or rain. Hope that helps

I've had good luck with the RaggTopp group of products, whether vinyl or cloth.

Clean it thoroughly with either M39 Heavy Duty Vinyl Cleaner or APC diluted 10:1 with water, and rinse completely. After the top dries apply a thin coat of Ultimate Protectant, working it in thoroughly. A very small amount goes a very long way, so don't overuse the UP. UP is still water based, but the polymers in it will allow it to bond to the surface much the same way wax bonds to your paint. Note that this does not mean you treat the product like a wax - you do not apply it, let dry and wipe off. Just work a small amount into the top and you're done. If you have excess that needs to wiped off, you used waaay too much product.

Thanks Michael, much appreciated. Ive never used M39, is it just a higher strength M40?

            #40 is a cleaner/conditioner, #39 is a cleaner only.

M39 is a dedicated vinyl and plastic cleaner, meaning it offers no protection. M40 is primarily a protectant/dressing with light cleaning ability.
