almost there - what do u think of this?

well the gf's paint on her laser is hard as glass ...
so far this is what ive done

wash
clay
2 passes of number 1 with foam cutting pad - rotary
2 passes of number 9 swirl remover 2.0 with polishing pad - rotary

at this point the difference is amazing since i started. There are still some slight cobweb effects on the paint. I'm keen to use the number 9 on a foam cutting pad to see if this will remove the last of the unsightly imperfections. Is this likely to be much more of a difference than using an ordinary polishing pad?

I plan to top this off with 2 coats of nxt

would love to hear some opinions

Hi SprintKing,

I think you would be better off spending some more time with the #1 Medium Cut cleaner with the foam cutting pad. The reason I say this is because after machine cleaning the finish with the #1 Medium Cut Cleaner with the foam cutting pad, this will have removed a majority of the lighter, or more shallow scratches, (as you have seen), and any remaining scratches will likely be the deepest scratches, or possibly swirl-haze from the cleaning step, which in this case would be shallow swirls.

Does that make sense?

So if you like, give it a try. The foam cutting pad will be your primary abrasive as the #9 Swirl Remover is very non-aggressive. If this combination removes the remaining swirls and scratches then it would be highly recommended to re-polish the finish using the same product, (the #9 Swirl Remover 2.0), with either the polishing pad or the finishing pad as the cutting pad is very aggressive and tends to leave buffer haze in the finish.

I will mask off the bonnet into two halves and try one side as you suggest with more work using # 1 Medium Cut Cleaner and foam cutting pad followed by #9 .... the other side with foam cutting pad and #9 Swirl remover 2.0 then again with the polishing pad

what ever happens i'll be sure to post some pics when this is done

Hey,

I have to agree with Mike; I would continue working the #1 Medium Cut Cleaner with the rotary spinning 1500 - 1750 RPM. I would also make sure that you work the product until only a light residue remains, but not a dry buff. If you do not work it long enough, the product itself could cause light swirling/hazing.

After the #1, I would use #80 Speed Glaze with a polishing pad. If you can not obtain #80, using a couple of passes with Meguiar's #9 Swirl Remover and a polishing pad should do the trick. Run the rotary at a little slower speed ~ 1500 RPM. But, do not work this product to a light dust. Instead work it thoroughly but remove while still damp. If you work it too long, it may re-introduce marring back into the surface.

Mike , it is just one place....... but yes thats a good point - here is their website. It was recommended to me from the Meguiars rep for our state.

Rare Spares website to find stuff just goto Pricelist up the top & then look for Meguiars about halfway down .. or what ever it is you are interested in.
