  • Cord on my G110v2 has shorted out

I bought my G110v2 September 6th, 10 from ADS and yesterday, November 8th, the cord started shorting out. When I hold the cord JUST right it works, sometimes, and the motor makes a grinding sound.
I know Meguiar's will stand behind it and make things good. Who do I contact, Meguiar's or ADS?
In the meantime, I need to get another buffer. Since the G110v2 is on back order, I was thinking of getting a 7424XP and start using 5 1/2" pads. I'm thinking I'll get better results with the smaller pads. Any thoughts on this?

If you don't feel comfortable repairing or replacing the cord yourself then find a local repair shop to do the job. This is a very simple process. If you like the way this unit performs then I would go this direction instead of being without a DA for a period of time or taking a chance it gets fazed out. If you aren't happy with it , I'm sure the fine folks at ADS will make it right. Good luck no matter which direction you choose.

The reason I'm leaning toward the 7424 is I feel it's a good idea to have more than one buffer should something happen and I can get it by next weekend. I have a regular 9-5 job.
I'm very satisfied with the G110v2 but it is only 2 months old and I'm thinking that since everyone is out of the G110v2, there must be a fix coming but is still a ways away.

Are you using an extension cord? If so, to be safe, use thicker than 18 gauge. 16 or 14 gauge will suffice.

I have a older PC plus the GG6 and a megs machine which none of them so far have given me any trouble. I only work on friends and family cars so I don't use them as often as a pro would. I find myself reaching for the GG6 more often then not. Good power and smoother but a little loud. I have had to replace the cord on my makita 9227c rotary due to no fault of the machine and it was a very simple job.
Just remember that all of these newer machines are a arm and leg ahead of what was available 10yrs ago and any of these are man-made and can break. Don't let all the hype scare ya. Which ever you choose will be just fine. Just an old mans 2 cents.

Well, being an old man, I like old man advice.
I got the G110v2 just to keep my new car in good shape, then the neighbors started asking me to do their car and I've been busy every weekend since I got the thing, dumb luck I guess but I really enjoy it.
I'm not really scared, I think I'd just like to have a different machine to go with my G110v2, of course that won't be replaced for several weeks where as I can get the PC by the end of the week.

Yep, I use an extension cord. I have a 14 guage rated at 13 amps so I'm pretty good to go on that.

I would contact Meguair's customer care. Let them advise you one way or the other.

I called Meguiar's customer service and they said send it in and we'll send you a new one. What else would you expect from Meguiar's?

In the meantime. I have a new Porter Cable 7424 XP with 5.5" Lake Country pads that will be here in time for the weekend. I guess everyone needs a back up.

I hear that. I have a original g 100 that I still use. To go along with the 1st. generation G110. Never hurts to have the backup machine.
