  • Addicted to Meguiar's

I used to just go wash the Jeep at the local car wash, use the brush they had, then go home and dry it off with bath towels. Yikes. Wipe the whole ride down in Meguair's Gold Class and remove with more retired bath towels.

I learned a ton in the last couple weeks about detailing and doing this stuff right. This is all the new stuff I bought in last two weeks. Left to Right:

NXT Wash, NXT Wax, Clear Coat Body Scrub, #9 Swirl Remover, Final Inspection, Pro Overspray Clay, TutrtleWax Wheel Cleaner :S, Black Magic Interior Protection, Black Magic stuff, pads, etc.

Is #9 a good enough Polish or do I need a devoted Pure Polish? Anything else I'm missing?

Mainly wanted to say thanks for the new hobby Meguiar's!

That depends on what your expecting it to do. Fo r what it is designed for it is an excellent polish.

It is workable by hand (albeit, very labor intensive) but you will get much better results from it by using a PC.

        Hi mxman,

If you really want to remove the scratches instilled into your finish by the car wash, the best method will be to go over your entire finish with the PC using #83 Dual Action Cleaner Polish and a W-8006 yellow foam Polishing pad.

This will require a small investment, but you will never regret the results you will be able to achieve with the above tools.

You could also try polishing your finish with ScratchX and follow that with a wax, but most clear coats are fairly hard and this makes removing scratches out of them more difficult.

I recently used #9 for the first time and I found it did polish well but I followed up with some Deep Crystal Polish and it seemed to polish up better than the #9 alone.

Try the #7 polish, i use it after the cleaner and then top it off with NXT. It does a great job.

              I'm gonna go with #7.

Another question! What's best tape to use before waxing so I can cover my plstic trim and everything????????Some special tape I could get at Wal-Mart or an auto parts chain sotre? Or is this just regular tape? I would imagine most tape would leave residue.

Also I bought an orbital buffer sold by Coleman from Wal-Mart. I got it for $2.57...They were all priced this much and I went to checkout and she rang it out as $15 and I told her they were all marked that way and so I got a deal. It came with a terry cover and a synthetic wool cover (that I should probably throw away). Did I waste a good $2.57 or is this orbital buffer of some use at all?

$2.57 for a buffer?!...Does it run off 12v's? I don't think you got burned at that price, but if you don't like it, you can take it back within so many days at Wal-Mart. I have a Sears 10' buffer that I don't use anymore, but it did a better job of polishing & waxing than I could have done by hand.

                Here's a good thread for using #7

I think #9 will give you some great results by itself, but #7 is a good polish too.

                  Thanks for thread on #7.

The Coleman sells for $15, they just priced it wrong. It's a plug-in and it takes 6.5 pads. I thought about buying a Meguairs yellow foam pad just to see how it would work off the Coleman but it only has one speed and I'm assuming it's kind of useless. I will let my dad use it on the Suburban if he wants but that's about it. I should just toss the sythetic wool pad, correct?

You might could find some other use for the wool pad, but I wouldn't want to use it on the paint.

Will the buffer accept a backing plate for the foam pad? If so, then the foam would help with the polishing part.

Look in the auto stores. You might find a foam stretch pad that will fit it...I found one for mine.

If you don't get good results from the Coleman, then I would check out the local pawn shops for a PC...Maybe you'll find one at the right price.

Meguiar's Ultimate Bonnet looks good. It woud definatley fit. The Velcro backed W-8006 yellow pad would work too. But It's only got one speed. Would that be bad investment? I would like to think my orbital buffer has better cleaning/shining/polishing power than hand application but I could be wrong. Go for it or save up for the real deal?

The Meg's foam pads would be a good investment...I believe you will get some results with them (How much?...I don't know).

If it's all you have to work with, then give it a try. I enjoyed my machine, up until a bought my PC.

I think the Coleman will give better results when polishing and waxing than hand application alone. You might have to use the Body Scrub by hand, but try it with the terry bonnet 1st.
