All Wheel Cleaner safe for this wheel?

Quick Question.

My neighbor just dropped me off their 1989 Volvo Coupe and I was just getting ready to wash it before I start detailing it and I just wanted to make sure that All Wheel cleaner was indeed safe for ALL wheels, including this wheel. I have never cleaned wheels like these before and wanted to be 100% sure first because i see the bottle says safe for all factory coated wheels. I don't know if these are factory coated wheels or not.

I'm 99.9% sure parts of that wheel used to be factory clear coated.

In other words, I'm sure they were coated, but it sure looks like some of the clear coat is missing.

I took another picture after just washing them with soap and water. I need to see if I can find a wheel spoke brush locally to better clean in between the spokes.

I actually think the outer lip of the rim may be uncoated aluminum. I took some M105 to a small spot and the towel turned black. I'm also thinking the gold spokes may be either anodized or painted. The gold actually cleans up nicely in the small spot I tried, but the outer lip of the rim is pitted pretty bad.

I'm not even sure that these are factory wheels due to the MSW logo on the center caps.

Any suggestions for cleaning up the lip of the rim a little better? maybe some metal polish and a terry towel or maybe a mini power ball or something?

The spokes look painted to me, not sure about the lip.

You can try something like SwirlX, UC, #105 on it since it may be painted. Should be able to tell quickly if it is pulling up gray dirt from paint, or black soot from bare metal.

If you are going to do some serious polishing then absolutely go with a powerball mini. I have also heard that the flitz polishing ball is better than the powerball but I have not tried it for myself.

You can try something like SwirlX, UC, #105 on it since it may be painted. Should be able to tell quickly if it is pulling up gray dirt from paint, or black soot from bare metal.

Already did that. I used M105 on the spokes and the lip. The lip turned the towel black. That is why I think it may be bare aluminum. The spokes cleaned easily after wiping with M105. I'm really not sure if they are painted or anodized. They cleaned so easily, it makes me think they are not painted, but maybe they are.

Sounds like something you would want the Aluminum Wheel Cleaner for.

Did the #105 clean up the bare metal as well?
