  • I need help!!

I'm not quite sure how much help i can receive here as i have a paint defect that is underneath the clear! I just had my car door repaired/repainted at Fountain Valley Body Works and I have to say i am highly disappointed! I am extremely picky about how my paint looks as I'm sure many of you guys are as well. Here's the problem 1. they used an incorrect screw on my bumper, 2. told me my car was ready when there was an entire trim piece missing. 3. the car was filled with hologram and sanding marks!!! Lastly.. THERE'S A PIECE OF HAIR STUCK UNDERNEATH MY CLEAR!! Is there any solution to this aside from a new paint-job?

I brought this up to the general manager and he said, "we went well beyond the repairs requested and you should be thankful for all the extra work we have put into the car. At a production shop having a perfect paint-job is impossible and this is not a custom paint-job. He also said that the defect is only seen at a certain angle." They do not want to fix it!! Regardless of the 100% satisfaction guaranty and the huge happy face they have on their building.

As of right now, my car is still sitting there at their shop waiting for an estimator from State-farm to go look at the car as i am not happy with their quality of work. Any suggestion on what to ask for or to say to the estimator or if I should just take the car home and try to fix this problem myself!!? I should have just stuck with Sterling or Spectrum Collision!

    Re: I need help!!

    You have 2 options:

    1. Wait and see how the insurance handles it.

    2. If it costs you anything at all, sue them. You may think this is a big deal, but it's not. It would be a simple small claims court case. Do you have in writing what that guy said about you should be thankful? Do you have any acknowledgement of their shoddy work in writing? Take photos immediately of the damage. Also, go to a few reputable shops and get estimates of what it would cost for them to repair the damage. Photos and estimates are helpful in a court case like this. Have you ever watched Judge Judy? She deals with stuff like this all the time and it's very simple. That kind of work is unacceptable and if they acknowledge it or you have evidence that could convince a judge that what they did was bad, you'll win the case and either get a refund or get them required to re-do it perfectly. You won't need a lawyer since it would be small claims.

You may be able to get your money back by simply threatening or filing this without actually having to go to court as well. That's what I would do. Don't put up with that. Detailing isn't the issue here, it's lousy workmanship.

I would wait until State farm looks into it. Then proceed from there.

Quote from State farm "I dont think the shop has the skills or ability to correct your blemish."
