  • 2nd coat - NXT Tech Wax 2.0?

    hi all,

Do I remove / buff NXT Tech Wax 2.0 before apply it 2nd time?
Or just apply it over haze and remove after 30 - 60 min?

    tnx

You definitely wipe off the first layer before applying the second one.
Polymers in Next Tech Wax 2.0 fully bond to the paint surface within 12 hours so it would be ideal if you could wait before going with second round. Plus the wax has a little amount of a cleaner so you don't want to remove any of the previous protection.
However some users reported applying second coat of Tech much sooner than after 12 hours without any problem.

yes, I left 1st coat overnight car in garage and after work will buff and re apply 2nd layer
it could be close to 20 hours between layers

Don't confuse "dry time" with "cure time".

What you want to do to get the absolute maximum out of NXT 2.0 or just about any other synthetic polymer sealant is this:

        1. Apply a thin but uniform coat of NXT 2.0 to all the painted surfaces of the car
        2. Allow to "dry" or haze fully - usually about 15 to 30 minutes depending on temperature and humidity; use the swipe test to make sure it's fully "dry" before wiping off
          • lots of people will apply that coat of NXT 2.0 and then do things like clean the glass inside and out, vacuum the interior, dress all the vinyl & leather, dress the tires and wheel wells, then clean up the garage - by the time all that is done a good hour or so has gone by and the NXT 2.0 is virtually guaranteed to be fully "dry" and ready to wipe off
        3. Now give that first coat of NXT 2.0 a period of 12 to 24 hours for it to fully "cure". Curing involves a full crosslinking of the polymers so that the coat fully bonds to the paint. During this period the polymers can remain surprisingly dynamic on the surface and can literally be "pushed around" so to speak.
        4. Apply your second coat of NXT 2.0, effectively repeating steps 1 and 2 above.

Applying the wax and letting it "dry" overnight can lead to problems, especially in high humidity areas. In such a situation the dried or hazed material sitting on the surface can start to draw moisture out of the air and subsequently become difficult to wipe off. This can also lead to streaking, just as wiping off much too soon can. Even if you don't have any wipe off issues after doing this, you really don't gain anything by letting the wax "dry" overnight.

Just for the sake of experimentation we have played with NXT 2.0 by letting it "dry" on the paint for as much as 6 hours here in SoCal where it's usually pretty dry. Wipe off was a snap and there was no streaking - but compared to wiping off after 30 minutes or so, we could see no visual difference in the finish.

          Michael, thank you for explain.
However, in my case I already left unwiped NXT 2.0 for 16 - 20 hours on paint :-(
I'm in Nor Cal (San Jose) and yesterday and today are dry days and here far less humid then in So Cal. based on my senses.

          What's done, done.
I hope to wipe out NXT 2.0 without issues, I'll know that after work ...
And re apply next layer, but will wipe it out in next 30-60 min.

For the future I think I'll do like this:
          1. apply 1st layer
          2. wait 30-60 min
          3. wipe out / buff
          4. wait 12 - 20 hours
          5. apply 2nd layer
          6. wait 30-60 min
          7. final wipe out / buff
          8. take pics and enjoy results

          is that right plan?

I wish those instructions were on NXT 2.0 bottle or available online as official instructions for NXT 2.0 for perfection ...

That's right. Just use Supreme Shine, Ultimate Wipe or other good quality microfiber for your wipes.
If you could prep your surface first (clay/ cleaner/ polish) the wax would last even longer.

If the car is parked inside and it's not terribly humid, and you didn't apply a heavy coat of NXT, it should still wipe off with ease. A heavy coat is just a bad idea not matter how long you let it sit on the paint though as it will always be more difficult to remove than a properly thin coat.

Your plan above sounds great (especially step 8 )!

Nice reflections and great end result. How long did it take you, start to finish?

The car looks great. No wipe-off problem after long drying time though. Nice clear reflection.

it took very long time for me

This is what I tried to do

while, no one replied to my thread with any info
Anyway, all took me about almost 2 weeks

Keep in mind I'm not pro and did that 1st time to my car
most time I spent on wet pre sanding chips and apply multiple layers of touchup paint and wet sand it again. Wait time for applied paint 10 - 30 min between layers.

Total time I think can be 2 days, but spread all that across multiple days to let paint to dry and not able to work on rainy days and working after my day work till sun goes down expanded project time a lot.

not likely I will do it again soon especially so much touch paint fixing

No, no problem with wipe off.
After 1st layer I wiped off after 20 hours and after 2nd after about 10 hours.
So far I like how easy to use NXT Wax 2.0.
However, I can't comment on durability for a while - time will tell.
Just hope it will last for 3-6 months
I plan just wash and apply UQW every 2-3 weeks as needed.
