I saw another thread about this problem with no real answer as to why it was happening. I used UP on my exterior handles, mirrors, and bedliner(over the rail part). I only used a quarter sized amount like in the how to write up. The next morning I went outside, and it had run down the sides of my truck. It also streaks my handles and mirrors. It doesn't run on my dash or other plastic parts inside my truck. Any ideas why this is happening outside? I love the product. It's easy to apply and looks and feels great, but it is making a lot of extra work for myself but having to wipe the runs the next day.

Re: Ultimate Protectant issue!!!
Meguiar's Ultimate Protectant is a water based product and needs to dry throughly before coming in contact with moisture of any kind. I've had this happen to me and this was the root cause of the problem.
Meguiar's Ultimate Protectant is great stuff and one of the best I've tested. Once it's completely dry it seems to last for a couple of weeks.
Good Stuff!BobbyG

Re: Ultimate Protectant issue!!!
The polymers in UP need to be able to bond to plastic or vinyl. If you've been using a solvent based dressing on these exterior pieces in the past, or something with a high silicone content, or with durable polymers (UQW comes to mind there) then UP will have trouble bonding to the surface and it can run off in the rain. Heavy dew overnight could be enough to cause the issue if something on the surface is seriously compromising the bonding ability of UP.
Give the surface a very thorough cleaning before using UP. M39 and a terry towel, or even some glass cleaner to fully strip the finish can be a huge help. Then apply just a small amount of product and work it in quite thoroughly, almost like using a paint cleaner on paint. Put a bit of energy into it, don't just wipe it on and lightly spread it like you would most dressings. If you're used to applying a dressing and then coming back a few minutes later to wipe off any excess, you'll need to get used to using much less product and working it in a bit longer. There should be no need to come back and wipe off any excess. If you find you have to, then you've used waaaaay too much product.Michael Stoops

Re: Ultimate Protectant issue!!!
I had a similar problem with UP streaking off some plastic trim (though not as bad as your situation).
Did you thoroughly clean the exterior parts (remove wax, old protectant, etc.) before applying the Ultimate Protectant?
It turns out, UP works best on a clean plastic surface - residual wax or protectant may prevent UP from bonding onto the plastic.
Once I cleaned the plastic trim (I used APC+), the UP "stucK" to the trim and no more streaking.Andy W.

Re: Ultimate Protectant issue!!!
Well, i was about to give up on UP due to streaking and stick with my combination of Natural Shine and Mothers Back to Black until I read this post and gave it another shot. I was applying like a dressing with a light wipe and just couldn't get it even. Amazing how much better a product works when you follow the right instructions. The window cleaner prep and UP work-in made all the difference.
One question, how well does UP bond to UP? In other words do I still need to prep with window cleaner from here on now that I have UP on it?"The Dude Abides"

@ k3ith
Glad to hear UP is working after you cleaned the trim.
I find UP bonds to itself very nicely - after washing my car (Gold Class in my case) I apply additional UP to trim without any problems.
IMHO - if the trim still has UP on it, you don't need to apply much UP to maintain the appearance of the trim.

Re: Ultimate Protectant issue!!!
I also like to reapply UP after washing my car. Even though the trim still looks good, it only takes a quick once over to bring back some extra black depth/gloss. I like using microfiber applicator pads. After, I put the pad in a labeled ZipLok baggy for the next time. I have gotten almost a year out of a pad this way and it stretches the product consumption too.Barry

I think I'll use ziplock as it's easy to see what's inside
about issue - I have some streaking on car plastic grill, but not sure if it's UP or was before, while on the rest of car I have no issues
I'll re clean grill and see and reapply UP
p.s. how will we call UP later? as there will be another UP (ultimate polisher) product
