  • My New Black Car needs?

Hi guys. I'm still not sure of quite a few things here? Does a new shiny black car needs a 5-step detailing process? I have already ordered for a Meg Wash mitt, some microfiber towels, Meg GC car shampoo, and Nxt 2.0 wax. Is this sufficient for a new car? Or should I also go for the Meg pure crystal polish? Is the claying process a must for a new black car?
Sorry guys lots of questions. But please help

Please don't consider my post as sage advice, as I'm a bit of a noob. However I'm up early today and can get you a started till the pro's start their day.

I think claying a new black car is a must. The car can acquire bonded contaminates sitting at the factory, riding in a transport vehicle or sitting in a dealers lot. You want your finished product to have the best possible shine and having a smooth surface will provide that needed foundation for your work.

Polish on a new car is considered an optional step by many folks. It helps provide a shine and also some oils that perhaps a new clear coat may not need yet.

You have chosen some fine products to wash and wax your car. I would suggest you clay. Next I would suggest following through with the five step process. It's good to develop working habits from the start that will sucessfully maintain you car's like-new or better-than-new finish.

Adding Ultimate Quik Detailer and Ultimate Quik Wax to your maintenance supplies will be you next priority. UQD, in my opinion, is essential for a new black car.

Now wait a couple of hours and the real experts around here will give you some sage advice. I think I'll try to get back to sleep before the sun comes up.

And what about washing the car with soap? Should that be done everyday? I have to wash my car everyday coz of the dust. So is it ok if I wash it with regular water and use the soap twice/thrice a week?

You dont have to wash the vehicle everyday. You can use Ultimate quik detailer or regular Quik detailer to remove dust.

Claying is a great thing but just be careful not to introduce more scratches (swirls) then needed. Proper technique is key. Having a clean surface to apply product, as well as ensuring your not picking up contaminates and further swirling the surface is key.

NXT 2.0 (Liquid and Paste, but I prefer Liquid) is a stable in my products. I REALLY like Show Car Glaze (M07 or called #7 Show Car Glaze) as it gives darker colors a very "Wet" look due to oils that help nourish the paint too.

I did a 2008/9 Subaru Outback that had a DARK Grey Metallic which IMO was very neglected and the car I don't think saw a sliver of wax since the day it came off the lot, and with the exception of touchless car wash quick waxes.

I applied that and then NXT and the car popped sooooo nicely. I just love the stuff and it was not too hard to apply and remove. I have used it on Black Before and the pics make it look like wet paint.

So do you suggest that I do the claying procedure to my new car? And why do you prefer NXT liquid over the wax?

And does the Smooth Surface Clay Kit includes everything required for step 2? Or do I need to purchase something more? And can I use the same clay twice?

Re: My New Black Car needs?

You can wash if you want to. But a spray detailer should handle one days dust, unless you are in a real dirty environment. Can also buy them in bulk, so will be a bit cheaper for daily use.

                      I would look at:

                      1. Wash
                      2. Clay
                      3. ColorX
                      4. Wax - Nxt 2.0

The clay should last you a few times, but the QD may need a new bottle.

http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26009 (READ THIS), Go to the section for claying.

I find that I am heavy handed in waxing so this helps with not trying to use too much product.

Re: My New Black Car needs?

Stamford, congratulations on your new car, and I applaud your desire to maintain it well. The important thing at this point is to adopt a wash & wax regimen and stick with it. Take a look at this article (and the videos linked therein): Your Daily Driver: A Simple Wash & Wax Regimen.

You asked whether you need to always use car wash solution when you wash your car. The answer is: yes. If you simply hose down your car and then dry it, you will end up grinding dirt particles into the paint, thus causing swirling.

If you want to remove light dust on a daily basis, then, as already suggested, quick detail your car. Pick up a bottle of Ultimate Quik Detailer, as well as some high quality microfiber towels. I always go over the paint with my California Duster before spraying on my quik detailer. Check out this video:

Black cars are really tough and unforgiving. Just remember: every time we touch the paint, we risk swirling the paint.
Swirls hide in the black molecular depths, only waiting for the right time to emerge and destroy your sanity.

No the environment is fine. I park it in a garage too..But sometimes I do park it in the sun and get quite hot out here. And should I buy Nxt 2.0 or 26 for the black car? And is it advisable to put thin layers of both?

Thank you so much. Brilliant link and write-up. And yes, I'm quite excited of maintaining it and keep my ride shining forever. And are there any substitutes for applicator pads for waxing, etc? And is it necessary to use different and new pads for different steps like polishing, finishing, etc?
