  • Pulling my hair out!!!! HELP!!!!!

MY car is driving me to clinical insanity!!!! I have been dealing with light swirls and holograms for a while now and nothing I do is helping. Ive used the consumer line of products like Swirlx applied by hand that does an ok job but leaves swirl marks and cleaner wax that really does nothing but frustrate me, polishing compound which left HORRIBLE results by further marring the paint. M205 left the best results by far but left hazing and didn't remove the defects, I did apply the 205 with my rotary on 1000rpm and worked it in well then i tryed to apply it by hand leaving me frustrated even more!!! I am using MEG's MF towels and not MEG'S MF hand applicator to do the work by hand. The pads for my buffer are quality pads and Ive never had issues with them and my technique is there, I just cant get this paint right. My car is in the FSU homecoming parade Nov 5Th by request from some of the high up's at FSU and Ive got to get this car right.. What do I do short of paying $2k for a paint job?

Sounds like soft paint. Do you only have a rotary?

They were likely there and you've just uncovered them. The clear coat id checking and pulling away from the base layer. There are a variety of reasons for this to happen,

        • Applied to thick
        • Improper surface prep and cleaning
        • Temperature during application

Huh? Every thing I do to this paint put scratches in it. If I look at it crazy it instantly scratches!!

Are you able to do a test spot with a product that removes the swirls?

And then the product that removes the swirls leaves a bit of a haze?

Ive not found anything that removes the swirls, 205 does the best job of not adding to the swirls but also not removing them but leaving a haze.

I think that you best be buying a dual action polisher. It will be much less expensive than a paint job.

Is the 205 removing ANY swirls at all? If not, you may want to try moving up to 105 with a polishing pad. Try your test spot and see what it is doing. You may very well need to get ahold of a DA. IMO, they are better for this type of correction anyways.

I am waiting on my meg's DA to arive so im hoping it will help. the 205 as i said before isnt adding scratches like swirlx is doing but its hazing badly. I think using 105 would destroy my paint as megs polishing compound is to much. This shot is after the polishing compound and the 205 (not applied in this pic) cleaned it up a bit. The trunk (top of pic) has not been touched with the polishing compound.

Yeah, use a DA. A rotary (the most aggressive tool) is probably not the best choice with soft paint. I wish I could come work on it with you. Too bad you're a couple thousand miles away!
